The plan was to fly into Mumbai and make my way down the cost to Cochi. I just realized that my visa to India is not going to happen. I now have a 10-14 day gap. I'm leaving Tel Aviv on Feb. 3rd and staying in Kuala Lumpur on Feb. 14th, dates somewhat flexible. Where should I go?
Things to know:
-No countries that require anything other then VOA for a US born citizen please.
-In addition to Israel and Kuala Lumpur I'm also going to Hong Kong, much of Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
-Have visited western Europe and northern S. America on previous trips.
Bonus points if it involves hiking, learning how to sail or involves getting to see the countryside in safety, though perhaps not comfort.

I very much like the sentiment of this quotation, which an acquaintance informs me is an ancient Chinese proverb. But I'd appreciate any thoughts on its actual provenance, especially because I have no idea whether this statement (or something like it) is an ancient Chinese proverb or not.
"The faintest stroke of ink in a record-book is more illuminating than the most vividly-recalled memory."
Thanks for any suggestions!

Earlier today I watched a short clip of 2 teams playing a game of... what, exactly? It was an indoor game, and there were field hockey / small soccer goals on each end of the court. Like soccer there were around 10 people for each team, but unlike soccer players seemed to use only their hands to pass the ball -- they couldn't kick it or dribble it, but they could bounce
it to each other or into the goal. The ball itself was smaller than a basketball, maybe about the size of a small volleyball. Anyone know what this game might be? This game was between teams from mainland China and Taiwan and the clip was from a Hong Kong news show, so that all leads me to suppose this might be a game played only in Asia. Bonus points if you know the name of it in Chinese!

My wife and I are living in Manila and would like to get away for the long weekend in Late November/Early October. I was thinking of going to Japan but after watching a tv show on Taiwan, it looks amazing. I'm sure Asia has more to offer, so please help us pick a destination! [more inside]

I've found myself in SE Asia (KL, Malaysia) with a 4-day weekend (because of Raya) and nothing to do. I'm thinking I probably should travel somewhere, but really not sure where. Where is a good place for a solo traveler to go in the area (the area being anywhere in the eastern hemisphere I can get in a reasonable amount of time)? Cheap is good, but not essential.
