It's like being locked in steerage on the Titanic!

Is this a safety code violation? For two years I've lived in a two story courtyard style building in Los Angeles. Someone keeps tampering with the locks and management won't do anything about it, instead, they've opted to permanently chain shut two gates that provide safe exit from the building. The two other pedestrian doors (front door and basement garage door) they try to keep working. Having the side gates permanently chained makes me uncomfortable. [more inside]

Why can so many people get away with overposting on craigslist?

Apartment hunting in NYC is a major pain for almost everyone. But lately it seems that craigslist overposters are winning the battle of keeping their listings on top, and posting the same property an obscene amount of times each day. If your looking for a particular neighborhood and price range, you will click and see the same aprartment over and over, sometimes for weeks at a time. They must be getting flagged. I flag people when it is obvious. Why are they not banned? I guess the question is, what can I do? Is flagging really helping, or is it just a placebo? [more inside]

Dude, Where Should I Park My Car?

I rent an apartment and park my car right next to the leasing office due to my car being vandalized several times. There's a camera right in front of the office, so if it happens again, I hope to be able to know who's doing it. Someone who works for the apartment complex told me not to park there anymore because, supposedly, they need the spots open for people who are looking into leasing. [more inside]

Inspection, possible eviction, related to pets and lease.

Former apartment manager advised us to cut corners with regard to pets (we have two dogs, two cats) in our original lease (which was written to say we have one dog, one cat that somehow allowed us to pay a single $200 pet fee). The new manager has made this an issue as we attempt to renew our lease and has scheduled an inspection for Tuesday, which may result in eviction or us being asked to "remove" two pets. [more inside]
