This 2009 thread had some good suggestions for realistic, human-oriented anime titles, but I'm looking for something along those lines that doesn't involve teenagers or high school/college romance. Super-picky requirements follow!

I just watched Daft Punk's Interstella 5555 again, and it got me wondering, if I love Interstella 5555, what other anime might I enjoy. Assume I know little about anime, and bonus points if I can watch it via Netflix streaming.

I have a netflix account, and I like anime (but know little to nothing about it). What are the best ones, on netflix, to watch? Among the one's I've seen and liked on Netflix: Samurai Champloo, Macross (all of them), Blue Drop, Spice and Wolf, and Gurren Lagann, and Initial D. There are others, but are there any hidden anime gems on Netflix that I'm missing?

I know everybody asks this (and I've read through the previous questions looking for recommendations), but what should I watch next? Preferably on Netflix or Hulu Plus (not web only). In general, I tend to like: mysteries/crime procedurals/law dramas, especially with a quirky twist, and also shows involving a quirky band of misfits (or individual) working outside the law to bring justice to the little people while finding out who done them wrong (e.g. the A-Team, Burn Notice, The Pretender, etc.) I also like heist shows and sci-fi. And occasionally anime.

I like anime, but I've been mostly out of touch for a while. When I look at a list of titles I don't know what most of them are! Can you give me some recommendations of gorgeous or endearing or mind-bending anime series newer than 1996 or so that aren't Death Note, Black Butler (Kuroshitsuji) or Wallflower? (Liked all of those, but have seen them!) Older favorites include Revolutionary Girl Utena, Fruits Basket, Saiyuki, Hana Yori Dango, Kodomo no Omocha, movies by Satoshi Kon... Gay characters are a plus, though not required. Availability isn't really a factor, I will find it as long as I know what it is!

Where can I purchase or download English audio and/or radio dramas based on animes? Is there a website that caters to such a medium? If not, which animes do you know that have been converted to an audio drama? Perhaps a podcast?

Japan-themed gift for a 12 year old boy. He's interested in anime, video games, and all things Japanese (even though he doesn't really know that much about Japan). A book with lots of photos would be great, but adult ones have too many words, and kids ones have too little real info.
This book looks perfect, but it's not releasing until this summer.

Another help-me-find-this-book question -___- When I was younger, like 9, I found a bunch of thin little paperback books in a bookstore in the mall. They were only about $1 each and were renditions of Heidi, Cinderella, etc. The most distinctive aspect was that the illustrations were anime-style!
