I am flying a contractor to Montreal today to pick up some very important, time-sensitive packages for my business, and then flying him back to the US tomorrow with the parcels. I'm really out of my element here and it's super critical that the delivery go off without a hitch. Please help walk me through the process of retrieval, customs, dealing with agents and brokers, paying duties, etc. [more inside]

How do you keep your house smelling nice without breaking the bank? Right now we're using candles, Glade plug-ins, etc., but it's expensive! What inexpensive methods do you use to keep the dog, baby, and body odor scents out?
I recently upgraded my MacBook Air to Yosemite. Everything seems to be fine, except for the fact that my iPhones text messages now happen on my computer (I think this is the continuity feature?). Anyway, I want this to stop. Of course, I Googled it before I posted, here, but the fixes that I found, don't appear to be relevant (they were from 2014 and probably from Mavericks). For example, one fix suggested opening the Messages app on your Mac (which I did) and open the Preferences menu, which I don't see. Can anyone help me stop this?? Thanks!
Need to fill out a request with the USPS to find a missing package and need a description, but I have no idea what a "China Air Post Postal Packet" looks like and my friend isn't really sure either. [more inside]
Last night as I was closing the shades I noticed cold air coming in and discovered what I think is a fairly recent gap between the wooden window sill and the vinyl windows. The gap is letting in quite a lot of air, and I am trying to figure out a) what caused it and b) if this is something we can fix (temporarily) ourselves. [more inside]
What prevents someone who inhales aerosolized droplet(s) of body fluids contaminated with Ebola virus from getting sick? Is there a known mechanisim involved that explains this or is it just a best guess since no cases have been observed yet that seem to involve inhalation of droplets that resulted an Ebola infection?

Our house is a small Cape, with a crawlspace attic. We’re going to get a home energy audit in the next couple of weeks, and the insulation of the attic is of particular concern for us, as it really gets quite warm on our second floor. Can I get your insulation wisdom here? [more inside]

When my central air turns on or off, I hear a loud popping sound coming from the thermostat area. I have replaced the thermostat and still hear it. I'm sure that I have always heard it and that other ac's have made that noise but, for the past few months, it seems to have gotten louder and it wakes me up throughout the night. It is driving me crazy. Is your thermostat that loud? Could this be an electrical issue? [more inside]
I am a US citizen working for a US company who is being sent to Europe later this year on a temporary (~1 month) work assignment. My ability to work in the destination country is not an issue. My flight to get to and return from the destination leaves from Canada. I have a NEXUS card but won't be arriving in Canada via a NEXUS lane, so I'll do regular land-based Canadian immigration. How do I tell them the purpose of my visit? If I say "flying to Europe," is "for work" an acceptable answer if they ask why, or will CBSA even ask why? I'll have copies of my air tickets away from and back to Canada, along with proof of ties to the US. Am I over thinking this?
I have one of the 27" Apple displays. I am flying from Seattle to Hawaii next week, and need to take the display along for work purposes. I have the original box, and the airline is fine with me checking this kind of 'luggage'. But I have a few concerns... [more inside]

This is a question about NYC real estate, specifically about a building maintenance issue. After many years of renting, I am in the market for a co-op apartment in the five boroughs of NYC. There is a problem with my current building that I am willing to tolerate as a tenant that would be a complete deal-breaker as an owner The issue is this: [more inside]
Using Revo Uninstaller, I have tried to uninstall Adobe Air from My Think Pad E545 running Windows 7 pro. Unfortunately, it left behind its ugly icon on the taskbar that I can’t seem to eliminate. The control panel section for modifying the taskbar doesn’t even list it for hiding or modification. Any ideas how to kill this unwanted intrusion would be appreciated. Thanks.

It's my understanding that the atmosphere at the Dead Sea has a higher concentration of oxygen than the sea level norm because of the extremely low elevation (roughly a quarter mile below sea level). My question is: what does it feel like to breathe this air? Is it refreshing? Does it feel thicker than air at sea level? Are there any objective medical findings associated with long-term exposure to oxygen at this concentration? Many thanks in advance.
This Halloween I did some Halloween candy science experiments with my nieces and nephew. One of the experiments we didn't get to do (but soon will) is: Pouring Pop Rocks into a bottle of pop will make all that pent-up carbon dioxide escape but not fizz over. If you put the rocks into a balloon, then fit the balloon over the bottle's mouth and let the rocks fall in, it inflates the balloon with carbon dioxide. But what can I do with a balloon full of carbon dioxide? ...Is it a stupid idea to inhale it to see if I get a funny voice? [more inside]

We just moved to a new town where, apparently, over the air television signals cannot reach. When I input my address into AntennaWeb, I get this response: "No Stations were predicted for this address. Due to factors such as terrain and distance to broadcasting towers, signal strength calculations have predicted no television stations may be reliably received at this location." Without giving away my home address, I live in zip code 17837. I really would like to get OTA stations without purchasing cable or a satellite. What are my options? [more inside]
The basement floor drain where condensation from my AC unit drains backed up, leading to a minor leak which soaked a small section of carpet (maybe 50 sq feet). I'm guessing it was 4-8 gallons of water total that leaked, and that it had been wet 24-36 hours before we noticed. The back up now is fixed. I've got every fan in the house blowing on the area of carpet. Do I need to do anything else? I'm thinking I don't need professional help given the amount of water and that a few days of the fans blowing in that corner of the basement will dry it out without permanent damage.

My husband and I and my college-age son are contemplating a trip to Europe this summer. If we want to fly together, is there no possibility that my son can get a student fare, or do student fares only apply to special flights? I'm thinking of NYC to Paris, Paris to Barcelona, and then Barcelona back to New York, for a total vacation time of around 2 weeks. Any help in getting cheap(er) flights appreciated. I generally find flights through kayak. com.

I'm a web developer / eLearning developer on Windows 7 looking to: 1) Get a Mac because I need to be able to test sites quickly and easily on my own; 2) Get a Windows-bootable unit that can act as my backup machine when my Asus throws a tantrum as it did this week; and 3) Get a reasonably portable Windows-bootable laptop that can handle Photoshop and other resource hogs so that I can work on it at client sites without having to barely squish the Asus (aka "The Clydesdale") into my largest backpack. Ideally, I could get all three in one machine that wouldn't cost the earth. Please join me as I anguish over the MacBook Air, the MacBook Pro, the Mac Mini, and other options. [more inside]

Need help finding the right air conditioner. My son cannot find a window unit for his apartment - the window is a bizarre 15.25" wide, 11" high. According to calculations, he should need something that pushes out no more than 6,000 BTUs, but his current portable is rated at 8,000 BTUs and is still not cooling off the room. The brand name is "Roam-Air" an older machine my husband took from a building that was closing down. My son lives in Queens and it's HOT....any suggestions?
