How do I rehabilitate my SO's image on a message board I frequent?

I have for some years participated in a genberal interest message board I enjoy, where people frequently post personal topics. My SO has changed a lot since I first started posting about him, but people still seem to be influenced by first impessions of him. Can I 'rehabilitate' them somehow? Should I even try to? Criticism, Belief, and Experience

Does anyone have any advice about taking criticism is a healthy manner? Whether it be work, your home life, or some other venue, taking criticism seems to be an important skill. When people who I do not know very well offer criticism or unsolicited advice I can have a hard time with it, if I'm not sure whether what they are telling me is solid or not. Which leads me to my next question about how much of what someone tells you do you take on faith versus trusting your own experiences? [more inside]

Is this a red flag in my 3 month old relationship?

I have been dating this girl for three months now. I think she is a sweet classy girl. The only problem I have with her is this: During past three months there were three occasions in which she wanted to go to a family event. At first she said that she was going to a family party. Then later she said that she made a mistake and that was actually a big party where half the city were invited. I texted her this morning asking her to hang out tonight and she said fine. Then this afternoon she said she rather hang out tomorrow and pack her things up for a trip she is going to go in 9 days. She just called me a few minutes ago telling me that she is invited to an event on FB which she just realized because her FB did not send her any notifications and she is thinking of going or not going. She always says she is not sure if she would go but ends up going any ways. [more inside]

Psychological assessment cost vs benefits, and more

Our teenager had an initial interview with a psychologist that was driven in large part by poor academics. The psychologist recommended some broad based psychological assessment testing. The assessments were quite pricey, and it's clear that there's a pretty decent likelihood of ongoing therapy in addition to the assessment cost. Basically, the question is, is it worth it? 1.85% on 45k student loan - just pay the minimum?

So, I'm selling my house and will have some extra cash, finally. I have a consolidated student loan that after years of steady payments, has come down to a very low 1.85% interest rate. Given the current economic conditions, and an intense desire to have my money work hard for me after years of being in the doldrums, should I up the payment and try to save a tiny bit on interest? Place on the internet to commiserate and get support about crappy jobs.

As the title says, I was just wondering if there's some place on the internet where people unhappy with their jobs can congregate, rant, commiserate, get advice, get support, support others, feel accepted and not alone, etc. It should preferably be an active place, not a forum that gets a single new post every few days or weeks. I know it's not healthy to just rage and complain all the time about a situation. Sometimes, however, you've just got to get something off your chest and know that someone is listening. And girlfriends and parents can only take so much of this, productive or not, because they're so much closer to you. This is more about just meeting people that are experiencing similar difficulties in life and having an active, understanding support group. [more inside]

Because "good presentations site" on Google doesn't help

About a week ago, I saw a very nicely designed site (parallax-y scrolling, a teal color scheme) where a (famous?) Web developer or engineer had collected her/his advice on giving good presentations, including thoughts on slides, handouts, timing, dealing with nerves, the q&a, etc. It was the perfect thing to send to people gearing up for a big talk, particularly in the tech field. It was recently launched, I think just in the last month -- I'd found it because someone on Twitter or Hacker News or somewhere had just linked to it. It was great and now I can't find it again. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? (Sadly almost all the salient keywords that I can think of for searching for this page are uselessly generic.) Thanks very much.

Old friend had a baby... maybe.

I recently did a Google search for an old college friend of mine that I haven't seen since his wedding a couple of years ago. I found a link to a baby registry with his and his wife's name on it, and the due date was listed as a week ago. I really want to call him up and congratulate him, but there's something a little weird about it: The registry has a ton of stuff on it, but almost nothing has been purchased: Just a few stuffed animals. Career Crisis- How to get hired after only 2 months at current job?

Hello, Metafilter! Long time lurker (10 years), first time poster. To sum it up- after a failed stint as an AmeriCorps VISTA (6 months) following graduation from the University of South Carolina with a degree in International Studies and a minor in Economics- I have spent a year unemployed, a year as a bank teller, another year unemployed, and over a year as a server and a tax season as a tax pro at H&R block. I went back to school during the time as a server to get enough credits to sit for the CPA (one computer apps class away from obtaining accounting certificate at a local community college). Moved back to SC and spent from 07/12-06/13 as an Assistant Service Manager at a car dealership (hated it because A, I have asthma and missed a ton of work due to complications from working outside, B, I knew nothing about cars, and C, I am not a fan of Customer Service/commission pay).
