Hi. Two questions related to an upcoming family trip - from Toronto to Brussels:
- cost-effective (but not too tiring) ways to get from Toronto to Brussels? Non-stop flight? Connect elsewhere (London, Paris, Frankfurt, ...)? Fly into large hub (Paris, Frankfurt, ...) and book secondary flight or train?
- things to do in Brussels with a 4-year-old?

I'm heading off to Paris for four days, and I'm starting to get a bit nervous that I'll forget something important. I've never been to Paris, and I haven't been to Europe for fifteen years. I'll be staying by myself in a hotel in Arondissement 7.
I'm wondering if you can help me out with any last-minute tips or things I'm likely to have forgotten. [more inside]

I (26/male) am leaving Los Angeles in January for at least one year of backpacking solo around Australia, NZ, SE Asia, and possibly some other places! Other than enjoying my remaining time before I leave (going to favorite restaurants, hanging with friends, etc.), what pre-trip activities should I be thinking about, and what preparations should I be making (especially while I have good insurance)? What do you wish someone had told you before you left for a trip of this length and scope? [more inside]

I currently live in South Florida. I've been here for 10 years. I've been wanting to move to Dallas, TX for a while now for a variety of reasons - better job market (I'm a software engineer), lower cost of living, better community and a charter school that I like. Logically, I don't see much of a future here for myself in Florida. I telecommute, so I'm not looking for a job at the moment. I'm about to send the security deposit for a rental property, but I'm having the jitters. I had moved to Maryland about 4 years ago for a job and that was not a good experience. I knew that I didn't like MD, but the job offer was too good to pass up. I ended up moving back to FL after 6 months. Unlike MD, I like Dallas and have visited a few times, but I don't know why I'm trying to find excuses to not go. Is it just a phobia of sorts? Or something valid? I'm really confused. Any advice?

So I'm heading to the island of Ios with friends in late august. Our plans mostly involve drinking and beaches, but I'm wondering what I should check out before/after the island, in Athens or otherwise on the mainland. Bonus points for interesting things that aren't complete tourist traps, of course - I'm naturally going to go see the Acropolis, and am resigned to the multi-hour line-up for it, but would rather avoid such for anything else.
Also I'm going through the Pimsleur Greek course, so Greek-only attractions will (hopefully) be fine by the time I get there.
And, naturally, I'd be pretty psyched to meet any MeFi people on Ios or the mainland. I promise I'm not crazy!
