I received this poster a long time ago, sometime in the 1980s or 1990s. I remember seeing a lot of this artist’s work during that time, but it’s been a long time since I’ve seen anything new from him or her. Thanks!
How can I find more information on the artist Henry E. Traumer? Did he really just paint one warship and then vanish? [more inside]

I saw one of this artist's pieces at SF MoMA back in 2011. It was like an isometric or orthographic view of a rooftop or several adjacent rooftops. There may have been water towers or rooftop vents, etc. The colors were bright but unsaturated like sky blue and rust orange, it had a 60s/70s vibe to it. [more inside]
I'm looking for the website of an illustrator I ran across a few years ago. She is in her twenties or early thirties (I think), and draws mostly fairy tales or fantastic/surreal pieces that have vaguely sinister feel. [more inside]

I'm a freelance illustrator. I'm trying to find lists of print publications, web sites, blogs, magazines, and any other outlets that pay (and accept unsolicited submissions). More specifically, I want to find appropriate/welcoming/well-fitting places to submit my portfolio, given the style of stuff I tend to do. Samples below the fold… [more inside]
I've been going from day job to day job for the past few years. There's always a point where I start to lose focus and my work suffers. Is this a sign that I should leave? Or is something wrong with me? [more inside]

I'm embarking on an overambitious personal writing project to profile the career of a pair of multidisciplinary artists who've been kicking around underground for 20+ years with next to no fanfare outside of their scene. Can you link me to some SUPER in-depth profiles of other working artists to give me an idea of what to aim for and what to avoid as I work on this? (Really long, career-spanning pieces would be best, but shorter stuff is OK. Bonus points if it's about someone you don't care for/about but the writing was so compelling that you loved reading it anyway, like this incredible profile of Carrot Top in Esquire.) What are some investigative profile best/worst practices when it comes to building something huge from scratch? What do readers love/hate to see in projects like this? [more inside]
Please help me artists of Meta Filter. I don't know what to do. I bought a print that I special ordered from one of my favorite artists, when the print arrived it was not what I expected. I'm not sure if I want it but don't know how to proceed. More details inside. [more inside]

I seem to recall reading about a contemporary artist (possibly a painter) a few years back who includes secrets that are donated by other people into their work, and perhaps encodes or conceals them in some way. Google's not turning up anything useful, so I'm turning to the hive mind instead - does that ring any bells for anyone?
What are some things that I could do to support myself while doing creative work, *without* taking up so much time that I can't actually do art? [more inside]
I'm a blocked artist. I worked professionally in graphic design/animation for many years, but professional burn out kicked my butt and I've barely picked up a pencil (let alone a Cintiq) for well over a year. I'd like to get involved in drawing again, starting with baby steps cuz that's the kind of snowflake I am. [more inside]
Mother-in-law is an accomplished mixed-media artist. She likes to use a camera to document her work. The camera she's using is about to give out. House is computer-free, network-free and definitely free of cell phones. What's an easily-used camera of 2014 that she might actually use? [more inside]
Let's say you're a young artist. And you're headed to Berlin in spring. You plan on fully immersing yourself in local culture once you get there -- you're going to get a studio, mingle at pubs and learn about your neighborhood. But you'd like a boost on the art scene. You want to get culturally & conversationally fluent! [more inside]
A while back I randomly downloaded this image, very possibly from a Metafilter thread, without noting the name of the artist. Anyway, I recently posted it to Facebook and one of my friends wants to know who the artist is as he's pretty sure he went to school with the guy ... but he forgets his name. Any ideas?

I'm a musician and sometimes when I see or hear other artists who are doing cool, innovative things that are somewhat similar to what I'm doing, I feel irritated or threatened, like my work is less important or less unique now, and it makes me bitter or less inclined to continue working on my own stuff. I hate that I feel so petty and competitive instead of just being happy for the success of others. I really just need to get over myself and stop being a butthead, but I don't know how to deal with these feelings. I was hoping the HiveMind could give me some words of wisdom.
A local theater company wants to use one of my images to promote a play they may be staging in 2015. Got a few questions for the Green. [more inside]
There's an artwork on public display in my community that isn't labeled with the artist's name or the title of the piece, and I'd like to know more about it. The facility that has it on display doesn't have the information, so I'm hoping you could take a look at it (or just read my description) and tell me if you know more about it, or where I could find out who created it and what it is called. It's a rather unique piece, being a full-length overcoat that's been hardened/cast and mounted on a large canvas. The yellow floral pattern of the coat is seamlessly transferred to the background of the canvas. For a link to a phone-cam pic I took of it, click [more inside]

I work for a non-profit organization. We applied for, and received, a grant to commission original artwork for our building. We chose an artist who proposed a mural. The contract is signed with the agency that is providing the grant, and work is set to start on the building soon. Problem is? One of the members of the Board found a very similar mural online, painted by a different person. Help. [more inside]

There are some people who are excellent draftsmen when it comes to drawing. Their sketchbooks are full of architecture style drawings or similar, with straight lines as if drawn using a ruler and little erasing. Or they're sign painters or car details who can just pick up a brush and literally draw a straight line on the car as they're walking the length of it. No visual planning or measuring or masking off areas, they just do it. Are there scientific studies about the particular set of physical and mental skills these people have and what exactly those skills are? Are their specific differences in their brain or anatomy that enable those skills?
How do they do that? Artist edition... Please recommend how-to's and how I do this blogs/videos etc... [more inside]

This is a screencap from an episode of the "Ray Bradbury Theater" series from the 1980's. I tried using the Google Goggles app on my phone, both with the picture on my TV and on my computer monitor, but it can't scan it all the way. When it does come close, it can identify it as some sort of iconography, but that's it. Does anybody have any idea who the artist might be, or the title of the painting itself? [more inside]
