Impressionism, gardening, biography, art

Looking for biographical material about Claude Monet. Want to know something about his inner life, not so much his place in art history. I want to know about his ideas about gardening, life, love and family. Not much out there I can find.

Whats this grotesque figure in old painting in Berlin?

I came across this painting (the right hand of the three) in St Marienkirche, in the middle of Berlin. The bottom right hand corner has a negroid grotesque figure that beggars belief. Does anyone know who painted this, and when?

A mob of people decorate a car - genius or scary?

We're hosting a Maker Fair later this summer. This is my first crack at organizing such an event, so everything is new, exciting, and freaking me out. Our theme is "City of Makers", and we'd like to include a collaborative installation that builds into a big piece of art over the course of the day. In this way, people will see that it's not hard to be part of making something awesome. Key to this is that the end result is awesome, and not a giant pile of crap (unless that too is awesome). Chinese translation needed for special painting

My father passed a few months ago and left behind a painting that he picked up while residing in China many decades ago. We don't know much about the story behind the painting but would at least like to know what the artist's name was. Can anyone tell us what the Chinese on the painting says? Picture links inside. Magnificent Wooden Stick Art Thing

I found this superb woodcraft art thing at the thrift shop and was compelled to buy it. It's a picture made up of thousands of slices of twig, branch, logs. Various woods, maybe some bamboo. It has a 1970s feel to it (Owls!) I want to know what this sort of artwork is called, and perhaps identify its origin via an artist stamp and some numbers written on the back. [more inside]

How Do You Find Art by Obscure Artists?

Doing a visual project for work. I'm looking for movies (or ads) that have great, highly visual car crashes. Slow motion glass shattering etc. Hopefully less action movie and more real life cars and actors. Fast and the Furious vehicles might be a bit over the top for what I am trying to do. Watercolor Artists Whose Work is Not Representational

I love to look at and create watercolor paintings. However, most of the watercolor art I find isn’t to my taste because it’s so representational. Boats, still lifes, nature, and portraits do nothing for me. I do like the watercolors I’ve seen by Gerhard Richter and Zao Wou-Ki. Who are some other artists who are doing or have done interesting things with nonrepresentational / abstract watercolor?

I've been framed!

I have a very large (6'x6') piece of amateur art that is made of many large paper cut-outs layered on top of one another with spray adhesive. This art has no actual $ value. I really like it and want to hang it on a wall but I am afraid the layers will quickly peel/curl/wrinkle/rip/fade if I mount the piece on foam core or similar. Framing it with glass or plexi would be (a) expensive and (b) heavy! Any other ideas how I can display this work?

How to find graphic design work / projects?

My friend has a background in visual art (mainly years of oils, watercolors, some crafts) and has recently started exploring graphic design. She'd love to do more of this kind of work on a freelance basis, but isn't sure how to find it. Should she advertise on Fiverr, or Elance, or...? How does this work and how do you get started as a freelance graphic designer? Any tips or recommendations would be really appreciated!

Erasing Non-Photo Blue Pencil

My drawing style has been black ink over non-photo blue scanned in as line art until recently. Now I want to watercolor my drawings, but still start them with blue pencil. I'm having a heck of time erasing my the non-photo blue pencil marks, though. I've tried hi-polymer and artgum erasers. Usually I'm on watercolor paper.
