My friend has been trying to identify this song for over 20 years. It's from the early to mid 80's. It came unlabeled on a mix tape. Google lyrics searches come up empty. SoundHound/Shazam fail. [more inside]
There was a short-lived kid's book series whose title that for the life of me I can't remember. It came out around the time that ESP McGee did. The main character had this unusual ability - he could draw anything and he had a photographic memory. The series was basically like Encyclopedia Brown, with a series of short mysteries in each volume, except that the clues to be gleaned were always hidden in the drawing. The protagonist, at the scene, always said "click" like a camera, and remembered the scene to be drawn later in his sketchbook. I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he asked me if it was Cam Jansen, who also says click, but I looked that series up and it's not her. Can anyone help? This has been haunting me for years.
I remember glimpses of these two films from my childhood (they're most probably 80s movies, but I'm not sure). #1: I remember some dark scenes set in a morgue, with bodies lying down under the sheets (I think) and they slowly come to life. I remember the bodies looking like cyborgs or robots. They then continue to hunt down the protagonist I think. #2: Some scenes of a huge cage in some sort of backyard, which sort of makes things bigger or older. There's a scene where the kid protagonist enters this cage and turns it on (there are these electrical waves all over the place I think), and as he gets older/bigger, his feet grow out of his tennis shoes. There's also a shot of a little pumpkin growing into huge one. If you can name one of them, it would be great.
One of my good friends had very little interaction with pop culture through childhood and most of college, and so missed out entirely on the now-classic music videos that were airing on MTV and VH1 up through the mid-90s. They're interested in improving their music video literacy, so I'd like to put together a playlist for them. Help me make sure I don't miss anything!
Is there a term for the type of portrait that contains two angles of the same person's face in the same photo? I'm thinking of this style (Will Ferrell). Another example here. These were really popular in the 70s and 80s. I want to get one of the style portraits taken but I don't even know how to describe it, or how to search for it. Does anyone know a name for this style, or even a way to explain it? Also, have you ever seen it being offered these days, and if so, where? I have seen these previous Askme's (1, 2) but they don't really help. Also my google-fu is useless except for that Will Ferrell portrait.
As a kid growing up in the 80s I often played with a 'speak and spell' kind of toy whose idiosyncratic (British?) digitized voice is burned into my head to this day, decades later. Help me figure out who made the toy and what its name was. [more inside]
Help me discover more music with that semi-creepy, edgy, yet also catchy and melodic (i.e. not too experimental) quality of certain '80s pop/new wave/prog artists. Looking for kind of the same feel of "Tonight, Tonight, Tonight" by Genesis or "What I See" by Planet P Project (and props to MeFi for pointing me at the latter). Instrumentals OK, but again, must be catchy.
What was that old (80s/90s) British TV ad with the boy who comes home from a camping trip and says "Pretty exhausting, really"? I'd like to find it on YouTube if possible, but even knowing the name of the product would help.

Hi. Does anyone know who made the following video clip? Was it a music video -- I don't recognize the artist. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

While settling a disagreement over whether Total Eclipse of the Heart was a duet, I just saw the music video and it blew my mind. I grew up without cable, and am pretty much ignorant of everything but the "classic" music videos from the 80's; please let me know what I'm missing. [more inside]
Sometime in the late 80s I saw a comedy sketch on TV which combined all the major world religions into one quasi-rap song (or madrigal-chant). The only parts I remember are "Sister Mary Elizabeth, hit me with a stick!" "Oh by the way, have you been born again?" and "Hare Krishna Hare Rama, here's your cookbook, where's my dollar?" Anyone know what this was? I promise I didn't make it up.
I have a vague recollection of a stand-up routine that had the comedian making fun of the Huey Lewis hit "Back in Time" in a nasal tone. Does anyone remember it? [more inside]
In my elementary school (circa 1989-1996, Ontario/Canada), there was a series of young adult novels that our library had. I've been trying to track them down, and Google hasn't helped with the scattershot info I remember about them. Here is what I have to go on... [more inside]
I'm trying to remember an old gold mining video game (probably mid to late 80s). I think it was dos. It was similar to Miner VGA, but after playing that a few times it was definitely not that game. [more inside]
I'm trying to find this song. It is from 3'30" until 4'05". I can't make out the lyrics very well. Maybe 'Turn it up' or 'Turn me on'. I recognise it and it's driving me around the bend. Anyone? Thanks

Looking for a movie I saw on TV in the 80s that was about a sad clown/mime who left his circus and was wandering around the city - a foreign city, probably Europe. It is NOT Children of Paradise, but maybe some remake inspired by it. I believe it was a foreign film and was probably shown on Nickelodeon - it was a color film. Very atmospheric and followed the clown wandering in the city. Any ideas?
Just heard this song by the Wombats. I reminds me very strongly of another song or type of sound. Can you help me identify where I've heard a song (or sound) like this? It seems very strongly eighties to me, but I can't put my finger on it.

Looking for a link to this image and/or information about artist, please. Fantasy-like/surreal art, landscape orientation. Circa 70s - early 80s - there may have been other similar prints. Female face/eyes (large), with 2-3 small sparrow-like birds gazing up at her from the lower corners of the image. Greyish and yellowish tones throughout, "misty" feel. (I think the last name of the artist starts with F ?). Any ideas?

I was amazed how quickly I got a similar question I answered last week, so here goes another one, as I delve the origins of my subconscious... I am looking for a comic in book form/graphic novel that would have been around in (probably) 1982. It was a similar style to the Heavy Metal comics I guess. It featured a computer called Rose and a huge weird kind of evil organ (as in the kind you get in a church!). That's about it. If anyone gets this I will be suitably impressed... thanks MeFites.

When and why did pitch invasions/court-storming/rushing the field end in professional, american sports? I see highlights in the 70s from Hank Aaron's 715, Yankees winning their division, even the Celtics winning an NBA championship in the early 80s where the fans celebrate with the players (or try to take hats off of their heads). In my sports lifetime,(post 1992), I cannot recall a single moment of this happening in pro sports (in America).

Who was the French accessories designer or other sort of fashion insider known for sporting mickey mouse ears back in the 80s or 90s? She was a rather kooky character and I believe she was a muse or friend of Karl Lagerfeld. I've googled and googled and have been stumped. Bonus points if you can find a vintage photo.
When I was a kid, I remember watching a cartoon that I only remember a few details about. Any ideas? [more inside]
I remember watching a short cartoon (which was probably an interstitial cartoon between shows). I want to say it appeared on the Showtime network. It had a red 'squiggle'.. basically an upside down 'V' as legs as the protagonist. I believe part of it was in a castle. It's been ~30 years since I've seen this (and I was a little tyke at the time) but I remember enjoying it greatly. I don't remember the plot, but I get the general impression that it was not of US origin... And if I had to guess, I'd say European/French was probably it's provenance. (Although I can't say for certain whether that's just me misremembering bits of it)

Musical question: back in the 80s I heard a cover of Al Green's Rhymes. It was a snarkier, Gen Xy, punkish version. Very distinctive vocals, kind of raspy and whiny. I don't remember the music behind it much which makes me think it was minimalistic. I want to say the singer's name was Chris something? Who did this version? I have faith some mefite well versed in obscure music will come to my aid. Thanks!
Does anyone know where my sister could get an mp3 of a cover version of "Lean on Me" from "The California Raisins Sing the Hit Songs" (1987). We had it on a tape as kids and she's making a nostalgia CD. Can't find it in itunes or amazon... Local libraries don't have it, CD is expensive. I tried a bit of filetype:mp3 searching and didn't turn up much...
Please help me find out the name of this song and who performed it. I'm pretty sure it was 1985 when I heard this song on the radio. It was kind of an oddball novelty song that used a lot of sounds like ticking and ringing clocks. [more inside]

I'm attending a friend's birthday party who was born in 1986, hence the party's theme. I'm female, but I've only been able to think of a lot of male costumes that don't get me anywhere (karate kid, tom cruise in top gun, etc). The costume has to be someone/something specific from that year. Help me think of a female costume (preferably quickly since the party is .. tonight)!
