Does anyone remember a website a few years back that would post scans of crafts and recipe books from the 50's-70's for the sole purpose of making fun of them for being horrible? I think it had "Lavender" in the name somewhere? It might be still going. It was a huge site with a lot of different sections of content and all of it was really funny. [more inside]

Was there a measured increase in drug addiction due to the hippie movement? What were the drug addiction rates like in the 1950's compared to the 60's and 70's. Are there any resources that have historical data on addiction rates and the particular substances popular at the time? [more inside]

Our wedding is 50's themed and we're trying to name the tables after popular 50's fads/icons/music etc. Unfortunately, browsing online and our own limited knowledge of the decade has brought up short on enough names. [more inside]

Help me track down images from, or if possible a video link to, a Saturday-morning cartoon-type in heavy rotation in the 50s that I remember zoning to: The growth of farm plant-foods depicted as a kind of underground assembly-line process, maybe assisted by some gnomish creature-lings, shown as lots of happy rhythmic mechanical activity leading to swelling carrots, filled-up pea-pods, etc., all over a classical music track... Ring any bells, boomers?

My girlfriend is obsessed with the Cillit Bang advertisement remix. Back in the 80's (or early 90's), there was a similar "remix" video of 50's black and white advertisements set to a beat-box soundtrack, with "lyrics" consisting of samples the sales pitches of those ads. Can anyone ID this? [more inside]

I love old cars from the 50s and 60s - especially pickup trucks - and I've always dreamed of owning one. Unfortunately my auto expertise is limited to oil changes and, vaguely, what a carburateur does. I assume you have to have a lot of knowledge to keep an antique car running. Then again, they are much simpler machines than modern vehicles. Right? Where would you recommend picking up the necessary know-how? [more inside]
