What Happened to 43Folders.com?

Help solve a mystery. Merlin Mann has been a prolific blogger, and one of the better productivity bloggers, at 43folders.com. Yet, he's disappeared! 43Folders last post was on September 25th. This is an eternity for this blog - and for Merlin. He had some other projects, but I can't find a record of his presence anywhere online since late September.

Detectives?

Cool Stuff to Run In Your Webspace?

What free, open-source projects can I run in a privately accessible portion of my webspace that would be useful to me in terms of making things more practical in my own life (think Lifehacker-43 Folders kind of stuff)? I'd prefer Mefites' personal experiences with their own installs over linkage that you've seen but never tried — although I'll take either one. I'm on a Mac at home, so it preferably does not require a Windows end-user. Also, I would be the only person using this, although that of course doesn't have to rule out multiuser apps.

I do not have shell access, but do have access to a rather robust set of tools called "cPanel" (includes cron, permissions, etc.), and I believe the host's admins would be willing to run a few commands for me if called upon to do so.

I had set up a MediaWiki wiki (since I was used to monobook and Mediawiki's particular wikiformatting style), which proved to be a positive experience, and I'd like to check out other things — but would like some guidance as to what people found useful in their own lives.

Searching for blog post about 43Folders/Lifehacks

I've been Googling fruitlessly for a good half-hour here, in search of a post I recall from a year or so ago, on the topic of Getting Things Done / 43Folders / LifeHacks I'm pretty sure that it was on MeFi, Boingboing, or possibly Gaping Void (but I could be wrong) and it was sort of a personal recollection about the author's experience with "two kinds of people" in college, those who could cook up all sorts of great ideas, but lacked the focus to put them into practice, and those who were driven, but maybe didn't have as many fresh ideas. The creative types were more likely to get high, cram at the last minute and etc. and the main obstacle to their being able to focus was that it was just not interesting. So the author of this post suggested that by looking at organizational methods and so on as another opportunity to create and apply new ideas, these types of people could, in effect, outwit their own lack of focus. Obviously the texts referenced were 43Folders, Getting Things Done, and the like, but if possible, I'd really like to find this personal reflection type post that I've described here!
