HWÆT WORLD: how should I generate and display graphs of prime numbers?

I haven't programmed much for years. Now I want to play around with different ways of visualising the Ulam Spiral and I'd like suggestions for the right tools to use. I want to generate or load arrays of (say) 100,000 numbers, depict them on a 2- or 3-d graph, and move the lighting and/or viewing angle to give an impression of depth. Details inside. [more inside]

Representations of 'The Phantom Zone' (in the original Superman films)

In the original Superman films General Zod and his accomplices are trapped in The Phantom Zone, which in the films is represented as a 2D 'crystal' prison sent spinning through space. I am looking for any writings/insights into how the visual effects for this were created, and exactly by whom. Any other insights, from comic book lore, about how the Phantom Zone was represented - especially visually - would also be appreciated. [more inside]

Making a 3-D box out of several 2-D images: is there any software out there that makes this relatively easy/painless? Small shareware apps or steps in Macromedia or Adobe applications preferred.
