Keeping it real (delicious)

Help me find a mid-priced restaurant in Brooklyn for New Years dinner! My friends and I (about 12 of us) want to have dinner in Brooklyn for New Year's eve. I would like to keep this to a reasonable price. I'm thinking $30-50/person, not including alcohol. Can it be done? Ideally we'd be in Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights, or Cobble Hill. I think a prix fixe might break the bank. Bonus points for BYOBs. I haven't lived in New York in years and I'm stumped. Thanks, MeFi!

How does your family celebrate New Years Eve? Between working a massive amount of overtime in both November and December (including before, during, and after both Christmas and Thanksgiving), driving several hours each way to visit both sets of parents for both holidays, not to mention all the other stresses that come along with the Christmas season, my husband & I are betting on being pretty burnt out by the time the New Years comes around. It's the only holiday we "have" to ourselves, and this year we wanted to do something fun instead of just laying on the couch, watching the ball drop, and then calling our parents at midnight.

We don't have any children, and money isn't really a factor. None of our friends live close enough that we would be able to attend any parties. So, what do you do to celebrate New Year's Eve? Save us from another bland New Year's celebration!

Where can I buy a diary where Sunday starts the week.

Where can I buy a week-to-view 2010 diary that has Sunday as the first day of the week? I've looked on the (UK) high street, but every week-to-view diary I've seen has Monday as the first day of the week. The fact that the week starts on a Sunday is essential. I'd also like something small and compact enough to slip into a pocket easily. I don't need to be able to record a lot of information. It's the layout of the days that's important.

I've tried looking online, but such details as layout aren't mentioned. Is there some specific search term I should be using? I'm finding lots of diaries, but nothing with enough info to enable me which one to buy.

Where can I buy one from, ether online or on the high street?

How do I make an Antivirus Pro 2010/Protection System infection go away?

How do I make an Antivirus Pro 2010/Protection System infection go away? I got it bad. I cannot run any executible files. When I try to run a program I either get a rundll32.exe error, or I get the "Open With" dialog box. Regedit doesn't work, either. How can I make this go away short of formatting the HD? There are some files on the computer that I'd like to try to salvage if possible.

Continuity between 2001 and 2010?

Question about the movie 2001- A Space Odyssey foreshadowing events in 2010. (Warning: Spoilers inside in case you haven't gotten around to seeing these!) So, in the movie 2001, HAL runs amok and kills the crew one by one as the mission progresses. In 2010, we are told that HAL was instructed to give false information to his human users aboard Discovery, and this caused some kind of logical disconnect in his programming so he simply eliminated the confusing variables (humans) instead of doing something illogical like tell a lie. In 2001, there doesn't seem to be any indication of why HAL has gone homicidal, other than perhaps capturing the general zeitgeist of the times that computers are not to be trusted. Are there any elements in 2001 that can suggest the reasons given in 2010, or is was that just a kind of add on that was folded in by Clarke?

Help Me Imagine the MySpace of 2010

I'm trying to imagine what MySpace looks like in 2010. Now, of course, it’s unlikely that MySpace will be what all the cool kids are talking about in 4 years, but you get the idea. Let’s call it MySpace2010.com. It’s the most popular social network of its day. How is it different from MySpace in 2006? This is for an artistic project which, were it gloriously successful, wouldn’t net me much cash. So, I’m not asking you smart people so I can go build MySpace2010.com and net $1.65 billion in Google stock.

Today’s thought experiment: What does MySpace2010 look like to you? Are we still adding random strangers as ‘friends’? Are there any solutions to the stalker problem? What haven’t we even dreamed of?
