Add Me To Your Favourites

I need to send a link in an email which on the other end will create a favourite in in the recipients IE. I've googled around this and found lots of resources on adding a favourite from a website but they all seem to assume the recipient is on the right page already. I'm using Outlook 2007 if it's relevant.

(Bit dull as a question I know but I've been wrestling with this all morning)

Outlook 2007 and Delete Keys

Help out a Penguin User with Outlook2007? Delete Key behavior has changed - all of a sudden, the delete key is permanently deleting messages, no more going to the deleted items folder - I just get the warning message about perm deleting, and if I click yes, it goes bye-bye I use linux almost exclusively, and haven't used Outlook in years. My company just moved to outlook, so I am running it under Crossover Office. It has been working fine for >2mo and then today the delete key changed on me. This happens for both my Exchange mailbox, as well as POP) and imap accounts I have in outlook.

How to turn off Excel's 'Snap to Cell' when scrolling?!

Excel 2007 - How do I stop the scrolling function from jumping to the top/bottom of a cell? This happens using the mouse scroll wheel, when clicking the scroll wheel and moving the mouse (free scroll type of thing), and when using the scroll bars onscreen. I'm using a spreadsheet that has large paragraphs in each cell, and I can't see much of the sheet due to the 'snapping' to the edge of cell that happens each time I scroll. Please help me figure out how to turn off this 'snap to cell' feature so I can scroll wherever I want to!

How to increase the number of items in the "Move to folder" list in Outlook 2007? I regularly move my emails using the "Move to folder" button at the top of the window in Outlook 2007. However, the list has a maximum of 9 or so entries and I would like around 15. Any ideas how to increase the length of this list?
any MS Money 2007 users?

In MS Money 2007, I am able to open my MS Money 2002 file and everything is great except for one difference that is causing me fits. I like to put all my Bills in the bill section and then I can easily see what the balance is going to be in my account after all those bills go through to make sure I have enough money (Shift+Click), but it seems that starting in MS Money 2006, that functionality was taken away. I am not aware of a way to select multiple bills to see the balance after paying all of them.

Reason for upgrading to 2007: I recently installed a new hard drive and my MS Money 2002 backup file would not open for me anymore (it asked for a password that I didn't have, seems that's a 'feature' to get you to upgrade).

Apologies: I know I should probably find a forum more specific to Microsoft and their software's problems but there is so little help there so thanks for indulging me on this active site.

I've spent some time googling and here's what I found:

Someone asking this same question with no real responses on eggheadcafe

List of features removed from MS Money over the versions, my problem is similar to this one (although I am able to see my balance, but just after the single bill I have selected, not multiples).

I see in the eggheadcafe question the guy seemed to answer his question with making the bills online payable but I've looked around and I don't think the banks I use support paying online (I'm in Canada).

I guess I'm asking if there's a way to find out what my balance will be after a bunch of bills that are scheduled to be paid are actually paid and if not, other recommended financial software; this is a deal breaker for me if I can't get it to work.

How to prevent Outlook 2007 & Live Messenger from resetting username and password?

Hi this problem occurs on my wife's PC where her Outlook 2007 (Gmail) & Live Messenger (Version 2009) password settings occasionally get 'reset'. It happens maybe once a month. How do I prevent this from happening? My wife saves her username and passwords to Outlook and Live Messenger so that she doesn't have to type them each time she turns on her PC. Normally when she opens up Outlook, it will start downloading emails. Same as Live Messenger. When she opens the program, it just logins automatically.

But on rare occasion when she turned on her PC, her username and password is no longer 'saved' - Live Messenger. As for Outlook, her passwords are gone, meaning she has to type them in again. Both problems happen at the same time.

I just want to know what could be causing Outlook to forget the 'passwords' and Live Messenger to completely delete her login info (both username and password). I have tried scanning her PC for viruses using Kaspersky online scan and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, but didn't pick up anything. Her PC is currently running a live subscription of Norton Internet Security 2009.

PC details:
Microsoft Windows Vista SP1
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300
4gb RAM

Quick and easy solution for reformatting Word documents from manual formatting to Styles?

Quick and easy solution for reformatting Word documents from inconsistent manual formatting to Styles? I am helping someone combine 5 Word documents into 1 book with consistent formatting, a Table of Contents, chapter-specific headers and footers, page numbering, etc. If it matters (for text formatting) the documents are all in French. There are 300+ pages.

Problem: The original source documents were all manually formatted (inconsistently!) and thus each one seems to have 100+ different Styles, with only a few (or sometimes one) instance of each Style. The original document authors also did other fun things like use tabs or spaces to position text instead of tab stops or indentation.

Right now it appears as if I will have to go through the document page-by-page, reformatting the text into a consistent set of Styles. Or wipe out all formatting and start from a clean slate. Is there a quicker, easier way to do this or are we just screwed?

If we are screwed, do you think that wiping out all the formatting and applying Styles to the unformatted text (using the original documents' appearance as a guide for different sections, header levels, etc.) would be the fastest way?

I am using Word 2007 and she is using 2003, are there any 2007 formatting features I should avoid because they won't be backwards-compatible?

(Also, I am relatively new to working with Styles in Word so any other large document design/formatting tips you'd like to share would be much appreciated! :))

Please let me know, thanks!

templation

So, I'm trying to do this little thing in Word 2007 for my boss. She made a sort-of letterhead, with a graphic in the upper left corner, bits of text all down the left side, and a little blue bar separating this material from the area reserved for text, and a few sentences of small text at the very bottom to the right of the separating bar, which projects about an inch and a half into the page. Basically, she wants to make a template, but when I tried to do this, the graphics and text she wanted didn't lock. Can I select the graphics and the text as a single unit and afix it permanently to the template? Does any of this make sense? Or is everyone comatose from boredom by now? TIA, mefites.

How can I easily backup Outlook?

Is there an easier and less manual way to export your calendar, contacts, tasks and notes in Outlook? Every month, I perform the following:

1. Create a folder with the current date
2. Export Outlook's calendar to a PST within that folder.
3. Export Outlook's contacts to a PST within that folder.
4. Export Outlook's tasks to a PST within that folder.
5. Export Outlook's notes to a PST within that folder.
6. Zip up the folder.
7. Upload it to a backup side and another computer.

The exporting of the data from Outlook to a file is easily the most time consuming part. Especially since it takes 10 clicks per task to get it into a PST file. As such, I can't help wondering if I'm doing it the most efficiently.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can speed up the exporting of this data?

(I don't want to purchase or use a backup service as I have my own storage area and feel more comfortable with something under my control. Nor would I like to backup to an alternative proprietary file format.)

Help me find this Chinese pop song!

Please help me find this Chinese pop song that I heard in Shanghai in February 2007. So I recently saw this link, and it reminded me that I never found this song I heard in Shanghai in February 2007. This song was played constantly, so I'm pretty sure it was rather new and popular at the time, and the guy even performed live on one of the big Chinese New Year shows. I remember the guy was just a normal looking guy with black rimmed glasses, and I think he was playing the guitar when he performed. The song was kind of slow and very heartfelt (if that means anything), and I have no idea what the words meant, but I got the feeling it was a love song or something. I would love to find it, because it would remind me of the great time I had in Shanghai every time I hear it.

Alternatively, are there any other sites like the one in the link above where I would be able to browse through Chinese songs/videos?

Sadly, youtube and such are blocked at work, so I might not be able to confirm or deny anything that way until I get home today, but thanks in advance for any and all help you can give!

How to "select all" drawing objects in Word?

Is it possible to "select all" drawing objects at one time in Word 2000 (in order to move them together) rather than holding down the SHIFT key and selecting them individually? I need to add titles to the axes of a graph that's a picture embedded in a Word document. Right now, the margins of the picture don't allow room for this. I can adjust the bottom margin of the picture but when I try to adjust the left margin, the graph just moves to the left, so I can't make room for the axis title that way.

The solution I've come up with, since I can't seem to enlarge the canvas of the picture (does anyone know how?), is to move all the elements of the graph to the left. Currently, I have to select each element using the SHIFT key, then move them together, which is time-consuming (there are TONS of little "pieces") and can lead to errors. I'd love to be able to select all elements at once and move them at once. I thought "Group" might work, but you still have to select individually. Help!

(PS--If more recent versions of Word provide a solution, I'd love to hear it.)

Office two thouand and why ?

In Office 2007 Microsoft has changed the user interface radically. I'm interested to find material which describes why they did that ? It seems to me that they've made life significantly more painful for existing users and I'm genuinely puzzled by what their motivation was. I also imagine that their large corporate clients would not be made more enthusiastic to upgrade if their staff now have to deal with a completely new UI.

I'm not looking for a MS flamefest but genuine descriptions of why MS thought it was a good idea to throw the old user interface away (the type of thing you sometimes see in The Old New Thing).

I realise there would be any amount of marketing BS about why it would be great for customers etc but has anyone seen a non-suit rationale for why they might have done this ?

(Just a bit of background here everytime I use it I find myself thinking 'was this simply gross incompetence or was it rational ?' - I know it sounds crazy but I'd feel so much happier if I could think it was a rational, albeit - in my view - stupid, decision !)

Why aren't there universal 32->64 bit driver translator/emulators?

Why aren't there universal 32->64 bit driver translator/emulators? 64 bit versions of Windows require 64 bit drivers for printers, scanners and other devices. Many people upgrading to a 64 bit computer have had to retire perfectly good hardware simply because of lack of 64 bit drivers.

One way around this is to set up a 32 bit guest OS in a virtual machine and then run your devices from the guest OS, i.e. you can install your printer on a VMWare (or other type) virtual machine with XP or Vista 32 bit (or perhaps a Linux distro) and transfer your files to the guest OS when you want to print them.

Clearly the virtual machine is able to pass on commands to the device either via the host OS, or bypassing it altogether. This seems to me to be a proof of concept for a universal driver translator.

My question is, would a 64 bit emulator program doing essentially the same job as the 32 bit virtual machine be possible? Basically it would be a virtual machine with a stripped down OS that does nothing more than run 32 bit drivers on a 64 bit host.

If it is possible, how come such a program hasn't been written yet?

I'd willingly pay $100 for such software instead of updating my hardware, because running a full blown 32 bit guest OS purely to scan or print things is a bit of a hassle. I'm sure thousands of people would, and the existence of such software would remove one of the major objections people have to getting a 64 bit OS.

How can I make Microsoft Word print a complete document wirelessly?

Why are we getting incomplete printouts when attempting to print wirelessly from a laptop? I have a Laserjet L7680 connected to my wireless router so that my wife can print wirelessly from her laptop, and I also so I can print from mine.

Oddly, though, when she attempts to print from Microsoft Word (2007), only parts of the printout are completed.

I can print fine from my MacBook Pro, and from my Dell desktop, and she can print from Firefox and from Notepad, it seems, but now MS Word 2007 is misbehaving, and it's driving me batty.

I have the network set up via the Network Magic Pro software (which greatly simplified the process), and there does not appear to be any problem with the network. As I said, this seems to be a problem linked to MS Word (I have the full Office 2007 suite), and though there are workarounds (ie. don't use Word!), I'd much rather get my money's worth with that expensive piece of software!!

I have looked at the printer settings within Word, but do not see anything that would cause this problem. Also, sometimes the printout will contain 10 lines of the document, other times 2 lines, other times nothing at all.

The ink heads are fine, and everything prints perfectly from the desktop.

She uninstalled Office and reinstalled it tonight, to no avail. She has printed from Word in the recent past with no problem, btw.

Help! I am baffled... please give me some clues on what to look for!

I do PowerPoint design for a living and -- finally, begrudgingly -- I am switching to PowerPoint 2007. So far, do not like. So, a two-part question: 1. Can anyone suggest a text or video tutorial on moving to PowerPoint 2007 for 2003 power users? 2. I've seen some "make PowerPoint 2007 work like PowerPoint 2003" add-ins. Does anyone have experience/recommendations for any of those? Thanks!

Powerpoint 2007: I have one large presentation of 200 or so slides in one ppt file. Is there a way I can automagically export each slide as its own ppt file. I'm imaging some manner of macro but the very idea fills me with dread. Does anyone have the mad VB skills they could bring to bear? Failing that, perhaps someone could softly caress my brow and whisper "there, there."

Dual-boot Mac: which version of MSOffice, 2007 or 2008?

Dual-Boot Macbook; OSX (home)/ Windows (work). Need MS Office on both without rebooting. Office 2007 on the Windows partition + Parallels seems to make the most sense. Anything I should know about? This macbook is going to have a split personality as far as I can maintain practically. Most of the time it'll be in Home mode, booting to OSX, - but I will have to access its work personality daily, and I don't want to have to reboot to do so.

I will need functional access to Office, specifically Outlook (or Entourage, if I got Office:Mac 2008) to access work's Exchange server and/or sync with a WM6 smartphone (Outlook->MissingSync->iCal isn't cutting it for me).

Seems silly to pay for it twice, and it appears that with Parallels, I can run the Windows version in OSX while the reverse doesn't seem possible.

Any performance issues I should know about? Am I missing some crucial idea/hack/OMG NO I tried that and it gave me fits?

Medialess

Can I actually buy an Office 2007 DISC? As in, the actual media? I have really struggled with this, since reinstalling Office 2007 on a reformatted 'Office-ready PC' is impossible: Reformatting obviously wipes out your Office install and the the trial version (which is the only thing available to download) is incompatible with (some of?) Microsoft's own license keys. The Indian support staff refused to help me with this issue (maybe because it's a known issue?). They actually sent to me a non-existent knowledge base article!

Putting the page numbers *exactly* where they ought to be?

Can you help me figure out Microsoft Word 2007's settings to meet some very precise requirements for page number formatting? For my dissertation, I need to reformat my page numbers so the top of the number is exactly one inch from the top edge of the page, and the right edge of the number is exactly one inch from the right edge of the page. After that, there should be a double space separating the page number from the text.

I've been futzing around for a while with the headers. But I'm clearly overmatched here. Can anyone either give me a step by step through this, or point me to some clearer online instructions than the ones I've seen so far? Thanks so much!

(And yes, I know, I know, Word has lots of problems, but switching programs is a non-starter right now.)

How can I conditionally format an entire row in Excel based upon the data in one of the columns in that row?

How can I conditionally format an entire row in Excel 2007 based upon the contents of a particular column in that row? Say row 1 column J, row 4 column J, and row 19 column J all contain "Alice." I'd like rows 1, 4, and 19 all to appear with a red background. Say row 2 column J, row 44 column J, and row 45 column J all contain "Bob." I'd like for rows 2, 44, and 45 all to appear with a blue background. And so forth.

Basically, what I'm asking is how to make a relative column reference in a formula. I remember doing precisely this using VBScript for Excel years ago, but for the life of me can't locate that old code. Anyway, something along the lines of the following psuedo-code entered into the Conditional Formatting dialog box:

Apply "Format 1" according to the following formula [assuming (y,x) refers to (column y, row x)]:

=IF((J,ROW())="Alice")

It might also be nice to do this with a named range, so that if I apply the name "First_Name" to the entirety of row J, the formula is then a bit clearer:

=IF((First_Name,ROW())="Alice")

Total n00b0 question, I'm sure, but I don't spend much time in Excel, and am would very much appreciate the help. Thanks!

How's office 2007? What are some of the biggest problems people are having with office 2007? In your opinion whats the best part of it and the worst? Did you find it compatible with your other apps? Did SP1 fix any bugs you noticed previously?

I hope this isnt marked as chatfiler, but Im looking for some hands-on reviews of office 2007 as opposed to professional and possibly paid-for reviews. Links to resources which address this would also be appreciated.
