What exactly was it in 2004 that suggested in the final weeks that John Kerry was going to win? Case in point here and here (yeah, I know the latter is a Democrat site). Maybe I have selective memory but I thought a lot of pundits had expected a Kerry win. Or did many neutral sources have Bush pegged? If not, what I'm trying to figure out is where the forecast errors were made, and whether these same issues could produce a surprise tomorrow (not counting a "Bradley effect", since that was of course not a factor in 2004).

Emergency Tech Support: Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac has suddenly become unable to save a document. It says "Too many files are open. Please close a window." Then "Saving the autorecovery file is postponed." Then "Too many files are open. Please close a window." Then "Word has insufficient memory. Would you like to save your document as Rescued Document X?" Nothing works. There's plenty of hard drive space. There are no other open documents. What's going on? [more inside]

This is an honest question to just those people who voted for Bush in the last election.
If you didn't vote for Bush, please don't respond.
I want to know if you still feel like you made the right decision. With all that's been happening lately, do you have regrets? Do you feel betrayed?
Bonus points: What are your top 3 sources for news?

Is there any place where results for the recent US election are available, sorted by congressional district? This site doesn't seem to have them yet...anywhere else?

Every year I put together a 'best of' comp' to hand out to holiday guests. This year I'm drawing a blank. Fiery Furnaces- sure, Wolf Eyes- Maybe. Mirah, again, this year? I'm having a hard time finding the anthems of 2004. Maybe today's songwriters got too swept up in the election to write a classic 'head-nodder'? Maybe I just got to caught up in the election to listen? Can you help? What's your best pick of the year?

At the Frankfurt Musikmesse '04, Powercore did a demo of some of it's latest Whizzbang equipment to let DJ's apply less-fake sounding filters to music samples and other fun things. The guy who did the presentation, Jim Motley,
seems like an absolute spaz, and it's kinda fun to see how into it he is. Here's for the question - does anyone recognize the music that he's messing with in there? It seems like a British version of Ozomatli, which could be a fun thing.
I can't get this outta my head. Anyone recognize it?
Here's Jim, freakin' out.

What the hell was that *thing* Sting was playing at the Oscars? It had an almond-shaped body, but the two strings were spread wide, with what looked like a harmonica in between 'em, and almost no neck. Plus, he was turning a little hand-crank on it with his right hand. It had two small f-holes in it, too. I'm completely stumped.

Besides this CNN page, does anyone know of a site that has an in-depth, side-by side, easy to navigate comparison of the Democratic presidential candidates? [Is it obvious that I'm one of those still undecided New Hampshire voters?]

Could someone in the UK send me the 2004 Beano Annual before Christmas? It's for my 5 year old. If someone knows how to get it in the US that works too. I'd pay via Paypal or whatever.
