To be filed with FEDERAL return

I'm filing my US federal and state tax returns by mail this year. I realized after stamping and sealing one of the envelopes that I mixed up the W-2s, so that the Federal copy (Copy B) is on the state return and vice-versa. Are the names just a formality, or do the Feds really, really need Copy B?

Questions on filing tax amendment

I filed my state and federal taxes last month; on each return I filed as a dependent, believing my parents were claiming me for last year. Turns out they didn't, so now I need to file an amendment. Should I pay the taxes I owed according to my 'dependent status' before my amendment is processed? [more inside]

I should've sorted this out ages ago but ... care to answer a last minute US tax/education credit question?

Egads! Last-Minute-(US)Tax-Question-Filter: Can a person generally claim the "Qualified Payments" as listed on their 1098-T form (sent from the university in addition to a W-2) towards an education credit? Or only the amount that they themselves paid, rather than the amount that was paid on their behalf by the university as part of their whole assistantship package? [more inside]

Picking a good CPA in South Jersey?

My wife and I are probably going to have a complicated 1040 this year. I've found plenty of places that list licenced accountants, but no clear idea how to judge one from another. Does anybody have personal reccomendations or ideas of what to look out for?
