Need OpenOffice on Disc -- Willing to Exchange for Goods/Services/Small $$$
May 1, 2004 4:26 PM   Subscribe

Two questions:
1. Has the time come for MeFiTrade International or BarterMeFi?
2. Would anyone trade me Open Office on disc for goods or services (or a little $$)?

In the spirit of things like Miguel and interrobang trading chocolate and peanuts, and in my own self-interest:

1. Is it time for a place for MeFites to trade stuff? For example, some people like things they cannot get in their current country. And it would just be fun and useful to have a place to trade or barter goods and services. And barter is really cool.

2. Does anyone have Open Office on disc? I could really use it on disc. I'd gladly pay a bit or send things from the U.S. or trade books or such or even barter proofreading or writing or such.

[See, I have Corell Word, and it plays REALLY BADLY with others, and I can't download MS Office from the disc I have it on because it wants my Windows XP code which I don't have 'cuz I pulled that code off a website then lost it ('cuz just about everything on my PC is "found," "found" as in "Argh, matey!") ...and I can't download Open Office 'cuz it's a 5-hour download on my dial-up, and the connection breaks every time, forcing me to start over (and over and over and over.)]

Yeah! Anyone who can send me some Schweppes Bitter Lemon in real sizes (i.e., not 10oz bottles) will get ... uh, something in return. Or real Fanta.

I don't remember where I came across Keyfinder recently (was it here?), but it will recover your Windows product key.

Didn't dobbs post a question about that (#1) recently?

Response by poster: Sort of, scarabic, but not very specifically. (You commented extensively in the thread.)

Yes, and AskMe is the tap that releases the power . . .

Side Note: Is there a reason you couldn't use something that supports resuming downloads? That's what I used to do when I was on 56k.

yeah, that Meta thread died quicker than I thought it would. i started it because i wanted a bike and a front projection system or kickass tv. i ended up buying a bike today. i still think it's an interesting idea, however. i've neither the time or talent to program such a thing, though, so didn't press it.

i suppose people could just list (in this thread) what they have access to and what they want and then if someone else wants to help or be helped they can email them. or would that be out of line?

Also note that there are plenty of download managers out there that can resume downloads so you don't have to start over each time.

Make sure the OpenOffice on disc you get is either source code or the right binary for your system.

I still can't help but think this is a good idea. All we need is a simple Philter or weblog where people could list things needed/things offered...

Thanks, all. Resuming downloads? 2.49? Cool.
