I need a killer blog title
October 27, 2006 4:47 PM   Subscribe

Either I lose 20 lbs by December 10, or lose $150. That's the agreement I made with 2 friends and my daughter. And it's in writing. So I figure I'm going to pull out my bag o' diet tricks and document everything along the way - but I need a catchy title for my blog.

I'm not going to register a domain name btw, I just need a kick-butt headline.

Response by poster: iconomy: I like your suggestion, but it doesn't project the urgency I'm looking for.

saffry: I... um, yeah.
posted by dropkick at 5:03 PM on October 27, 2006

Response by poster: To clarify: I'm in the position to lose $150 or lose 20 lbs. If I lose 20 lbs, they don't have to pay me a cent. It's not a wager, instead, it's a financial penalty I've imposed on myself in case I don't lose the weight.

Some more good suggestions. You're getting warmer.

Are you actually going to earn $150 if you lose the 20 lbs, or will you just not have to pay a $150 penalty?

Most people recommend a much lower rate of 1-2 pounds per week. Unless this is 2007? Slightly offtopic, but you will likely do harm.

Response by poster: Riki: That 1-2 lbs refers to "real" weight. Not water, but adipose tissue and muscle. Wrestlers and boxers can lose 5+ lbs in a single night to squeeze into a lower weight class, but it's primarily fluids.

"This is dangerous. 20 pounds in 6 weeks is not safe."

I dunno. If dropkick is a tall fat guy with some muscle underneath, it's probably ok. Any woman who's been to WeightWatchers will tell you what a piss-off it is that the enormous fat guys lose at a tremendous rate compared to females and the mildly tubby. Don't forget those guidelines about what's safe and possible assume you're of average height and so on. I'd imagine that you could lose 5 pounds p/w in the first couple as water goes and stored glycogen in gets used up, and then your rate would decline over the remaining weeks.

Assuming dropkick weighs, say 300lb, I'd suggest:

Response by poster: i_am_joe's_spleen is right on a number of counts. Once I deplete my glycogen stores and get into ketosis, I should be able to burn fat agressively, even with only moderate exercise. This, quite frankly, is my only chance to "beat the fat tax" as Advocate so choicely put it.

Btw, I'm of average height 5'9" and currently 209lbs with a muscular build but also some serious chunk around the midsection. I determined 190lbs was a good setpoint for me because I look good and feel good at that weight.

"Lights and Pluck"

Lots of puns in here. Lights are the lungs of a slaughtered animal, and the Pluck are the heart, liver, etc. But also, light meaning losing weight, and pluck, meaning courage/heart.
