Is there anything fun to do in Cleveland?
Me and some buddies decided to pick a random city for a 48 hour excursion.... Cleveland was the winner.
Is it better to stay downtown, or some place like Westlake?
We're pretty tame guys. Drink a little, pretty laid back, and just looking for fun things that the locals do.
Any suggestions?

The question cushie links to is still on the front page.
You'll probably want to spend most of your time in the Flats, and I'd definitely encourage you to stay away from Tremont, Coventry, Ohio City, Cleveland Heights, University Heights, Little Italy and Lakewood.

Do not go to the flats, its basically shut down. The downtown bars that are the best are now on west 6th street. Also, the house of Blues is not bad. Tremont is a trendy spot with very good restaurants and good bars.

Westlake is an incredibly boring bedroom community! Unless you want to eat dinner with a bunch of orthodontists and soccer moms....

I moved to Cleveland 2 1/2 years ago, and I would say that you did a great job picking a very random city. The bars on West 6th are where the action is-- Mercury Lounge, Spy Bar, Velvet Dog, etc. Unlike box, I like Ohio City and Tremont. In Ohio City, you might want to check out Great Lakes Brewing Co., Flying Fig, and Market Ave. Wine Bar, all on Market Ave. Also fun are Fulton Bar and Grill and Johnny Mango. And in Tremont there's Lava Lounge and the Tree House. Other things to do: West Side Market, an Indians game if they're in town (Jacob's Field is great), watch the sunset over the lake. . . Have fun!

No one hangs out in Westlake, excepting perhaps teenagers who can't drive yet. And eh, the Flats are overrated [and relatively easy to get lost in, for an out-of-towner.] It's my understanding that the area hasn't been doing very well for the past bunch of years, although I haven't particularly kept up with Cleveland affairs since I left the city.

If you like to be entertained there's Pickwick & Frollick, a nice comedy club. Playhouse Square where there's always a show to catch. Definitely see an Indians game...and everything else picklebird said. It might be too early in the season and too far away for you but in Sandusky, OH is Cedar Point- THE amusement park in the US.
