How can I stop Firefox from checking for updates so frequently?

Running Firefox 1.5. It checks for updates every time a new window is opened. I've already gone into the advanced tab in options and turned off all 3 options for automatic updates. The "checking for updates" window pops up incessantly and it's driving me crazy.

Best answer: Firefox doesn't do that on its own. I'd suggest you start uninstalling extensions until you find the one that's causing the problem.

Response by poster: Thanks Jellicle - you were right. The culprit was Foxylicious. I've disabled it and the updates have stopped!

Is there something about Foxylicious you like better than the 'official' plugin?

Response by poster: Foxylicious allows me to back up my delicious bookmarks - just in case Delicious goes down some day. Unless there's a way to do this with the official plugin that I'm not aware of.
