Where in NYC should we go for Thanksgiving dim sum?

We would like to have dim sum for Thanksgiving dinner. There will be 4-8 of us. What are your favorite dim sum places in the city? Thank you!

We live here and are fine getting around, going wherever. So no limits! (The city would be easier than going out to say, Flushing, but if it were worth it, we'd go.)

We've gone to Pacificana in Sunset Park for meetups and it's good.

I like Buddha Bodai in Chinatown in Manhattan--no carts but a delicious all veggie dim sum menu.

Nom Wah is pretty great. It's been there forever and it looks like a diner. No carts either. I also love Buddha Bodai. What timing were you thinking of? Nom Wah definitely serves dim sum up through dinner hours.

Best answer: Dim sum is usually a brunch food, so many places don't serve it at night. The ones that do tend not to use carts. In general, the trend is "made to order" dim sum and not carts, which can suffer from diminished quality as the same food circulates around a room over and over. NYC dim sum also tends to lag greatly behind the West Coast.

That said, since Chinatown Brasserie closed, the two best places for dim sum in Manhattan are Hakkasan and Red Farm. Made to order dishes, not carts (fresher). Both lean towards modern renditions. I think Hakkasan is closed for Thanksgiving Day but Red Farm usually does Peking turkey in addition to dim sum and other cooked dishes. They do a great take on nouveau / fancified soup dumplings. Give them a call ASAP to ask about reservations as your group may be quite large. They have two locations, UWS and West Village.

Nom Wah is OK, not great. They do a better job on siu mai than har gow. Avoid the rice noodle rolls and taro dumplings. Cute atmosphere, nice family who run it, though.

Response by poster: Thank you! I come from people who have Thanksgiving at like 2. So don't worry about "dinner time."

Jing Fong in Chinatown (Elizabeth and Canal) is our favorite. Maybe not the best of the best food-wise, but it's very tasty and they do the traditional cart service most of the time (they usually do made-to-order at dinnertime). It's huge (MUCH bigger than Nom Wah) so even with a big group there shouldn't be much of a wait.

Response by poster: Year-later update: We went to Red Farm, it was perfect, we will return this year. Dim Sum Thanksgiving is all I want in life.
