So I recently met and started dating a guy (let's call him Chris) who makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Which is good! I could go on about it, but that's not really what the question's about, so...just be assured that we're having fun and he's been nothing but kind to me so far. But I have noticed, I guess enough times to notice, him not speaking positively of other people in his life. I don't know how to respond when he makes negative comments, especially if it has anything to do with his (young adult) kids, for various awkward reasons. [more inside]

Last year I left the SF bay area, leaving behind 98% of my possessions in a storage room in the area. I finally decided to move my things up here to Oregon and asked a friend of mine to meet with the estimator from the moving company to let him into the storage room. She agreed and spent maybe an hour with him. Now that my move date is set I'm driving down to the bay area to supervise my move. [more inside]
I noted that my wisdom tooth on the bottom left of my mouth has been growing two days ago. And the gum around my wisdom tooth started to get swollen and it got worse today. I accidently pressed the gum near my wisdom tooth and there is some yellow liquid with a bit blood coming out from my wisdome tooth. I do not know if the gum near my wisdom tooth is infected or not? I feel it is a little harder to open my mouth than usual. My wisdom tooth does hurt so far. But when i press the area bettween my left jaw and my neck, it hurts a little bit. Here is a picture of my wisdom tooth. Link Can you give me some advice of how to do home treament to my wisdom tooth? Is it an emergency to remove my wisdom tooth? I personally do not want to have it removed. And i have a all-set vacation in two days as well. So if i have to remove it, can I do it two weeks later? and if I can wait for two weeks, what should I do to help my wisdom tooth get better? I really appreciate your time to help me!

There are rats in the garbage shed behind my house. My landlord has been contacted and I have no evidence of them being in my house, but I am completely terrified to be there at night now. I'm pretty sure I have some sort of anxiety problem, and it's been getting worse lately. I've never taken meds or been to therapy, though I know that I probably should. The edges of both cabinets next to the dishwasher have swollen and expanded from steam coming out of the dishwasher. They were only installed a couple of months ago. But who pays for the new cabinets: the contractor who installed the cabinets & dishwasher, or the appliance store who sold us the dishwasher (which leaked the steam that made the cabinets swell)? And who can cut this Gordian Knot of personalities for me? [more inside]

In the late 1990s I attended one of Edward Tufte's day-long seminars. Tufte screened several short films for us, including "Mona Lisa Descending a Staircase", "Powers of Ten", and another short presenting a series of visual proofs of the Pythagorean Theorem. There are a variety of such films out there on the tubes, but can anyone help identify which one Tufte is likely to have chosen? [more inside]
At 3 1/2 months, Allan Armadale (obligatory photo with his sleeping brother Ozias Midwinter) has figured out that if he wants to knead energetically (and does he ever), the human needs to be wearing a very thick bathrobe. At present, the human has a suitable robe that she got from Marks & Spencer, but Allan and his two siblings are on track to doing it in. Previous Asks have, for some reason, prioritized humans instead of felines. Requirements inside. [more inside]
My girlfriend's family is from Shanghai, but her families recipes are informal and there are many common dishes that she'd love a good cookbook on how to make. Any suggestions?
I accidentally deleted an iPhone app (Voice Recorder). Associated with the app were audio files that I didn't have anywhere else, some of which I'd be pretty bummed to lose. After a ludicrously protracted search, I've bought a house, and I'm moving soon. Hooray! But the kitchen is long past its prime, and in particular, the built-in oven looks to be pretty awful. Dealing with that is high on the priority list, but other things are higher, and realistically I doubt I'll be able to get to it before next year. And that's rather a shame, because I enjoy baking, and enjoy bringing the results to work for colleagues to devour. So, please help keep me sane by suggesting your favourite non-baked baked goods. My best friend and I are going to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival on Labor Day weekend. I want to write up a quest/game for us to follow as a specialized gift. I need to come up with some quest lines, quest prizes, and achievements for points earned! [more inside]
How would you send a personal note that is more meaningful than an email, but not deep enough to warrant a hand written snail mail? Ecards seemed to fill this niche previously, but feel too dated and archaic for use now, especially for younger people. Are there any other alternatives?
Take me through the logistics of learning the piano for a first-time adult student. Do I take lessons with a private instructor? How do I find this instructor? How much should I expect a lesson to cost? How often will I need to practice? Do I buy or rent a piano? Should I buy a keyboard instead? Headphones for home practice might be ideal in my scenario. Any other advice on logistics appreciated!
We recently moved into a new (to us) house and purchased this sofa. Well the cats immediately thought it was their new scratching post and started to tear up the sides and back. This is my first brand new couch ever and I’d like it to last a while. Plus it wasn’t cheap. [more inside]

Ouch. My iPhone used 5gb of cell data this month. AT&T is throttling me. The culprit is Waze. I live in NYC, drive a lot, and need bleeding-edge traffic data (I don't use it for the maps). Any tips for making Waze use less data? I'd pause it for stretches where there are no route alternatives, but can't think of a convenient way. E.g. does simply turning off (not powering down) iPhone stop data influx to Waze? Any other tips for reducing Waze's data hunger?
The pic of the switch described in this question is here. I have these 16mm diameter switches with these tiny little contacts, with tiny little holes in each. I have to connect wires to all of them, and soldering onto them is really tough because they're so little and so close together. I have a bunch of them to do so I was wondering if there's some sort of ultra-tiny female spade solderless connector that exists, or some other sort of solderless connector that would allow me to skip all that soldering. If so, where could I buy them? [more inside]

I'm single (straight male, 32) and starting to date women online again. My 18 month old nephew LOVES "real things" that are not toys. For older kids in my life, I LOVE buying them things like rock tumblers, microscopes, binoculars, swiss army knives (when they're old enough and with parental permission), digital cameras, or things to support their hobbies (like nice fins for snorkeling). We send them money from foreign countries just for fun (various small bills and lots of coins) and rocks and seashells. I've also had great luck with kids magazines and non-kid magazines (like Science, or National Geographic). I'm also rather good at getting experiences for kids and older teens - museum passes, or concert tickets, or a special fun restaurant where they sing, etc. But I've realized that I'd love to buy the younger set more "real things" because they seem to love them so much more than actual toys! This is roughly for ages 1-5. Would love some additional help of "real things" that toddlers and preschool kids like! [more inside]

I moved to the US from Canada during the 2014 tax year on a work visa. My departure date from Canada is considered the day after I sold my home in Canada. The tax people say it is advantageous for me to file as Married Filing Together, forcing me to declare the entire 2014 (not just the part I was in the US). Is there some other choices beside surgery, or doing nothing? [more inside]
I teach college-level courses in a historical humanities field. My research and teaching both swim in a time period where the conceptualization of "consent," as we understand it today, was not in play. So I have to teach a lot of documents, images, novels, poems, and plays that... well, to be honest .... feature rape as a matter of course - often, in fact, as a comedic convention or as an important didactic touchstone. I teach a lot of works that also features graphic violence - again as part of a conventional, generic trope. And I teach a lot of radical political philosophy from [historical humanities field]. Do I need to include a trigger warning on my syllabus? If so, what does that look like? Do the graphic violence and/or radical politics also warrant a similar warning? And if so, what does that look like? [more inside]

Just as the title says, the last 3 days I've come home to a new, smelly brown paint job on my wall. No new diet, no new anything, just simply - she's started sharting. I've watched her go in the morning today but still, new paint job after work. What could be causing this? [more inside]

A group of friends is having a talent show tomorrow night. Happy Friday MeFi, I was wondering if someone could shine some light onto why my stomach freaks out when I have regular coffee (Dunks, Starbucks, Keurig) but doesn't scream when I have Espresso? I can't quite wrap my heard around it, although I suspect it may have something to do with acidic content from instant-coffee, but whenever I try to have coffee from Dunkin Donuts or from one of those little Keurig cups, my stomach feels like it is being stabbed to death. It usually follows with a very painful stomach-ache for the next 30-45 minutes and then it goes away. However, if I use my work's espresso machine, it doesn't hurt my stomach at all. What gives? This is probably not related, but I have similar issues when I drink beer but no issues when I drink Vodka or Tequilla. Thanks for all your responses.

In Per Petterson's great novel, Out Stealing Horses, there is a moment when baby animals appear outside a home. The English translation that is current calls them "fauns". My partner and I are breaking up after 20 years. Neither of us trusts the other’s judgement and dividing our only asset has become hugely problematic. We purchased our home 18 years ago as a fixer-upper in what has since become a very desirable location, so there’s a large amount of equity in it. I never gave proper thought about how we’d move on from it, meaning this is one of those “explain it to me like I’m five” inquiries. I’d like to have sensible questions to ask at our bank meeting tomorrow. We have a meeting next week with a therapist and have agreed to some kind of professional mediation in the future. The thing is… my partner demands that we extend our joint mortgage-backed line of credit to allow her to purchase (outright) a smaller place in the countryside. For 10 years, she’s only done part-time work for my home business, so she won’t have any income going forward (except for support payments). I doubt she could get bridge financing under her own name. I want to avoid being drawn deeper into debt with her. [more inside]

This is so hard to google and sort of time sensitive - I read something once about starting the process of finding what you love to do, and it involved going about your work day and noting all the different tasks you do, then marking them with "green flag" or "red flag" etc., according to how much you like or hate that particular aspect of the job. There was more to it, and maybe it was a book? I'd really appreciate it if you know what this was. I might have found it on Metafilter.

I'm working on a presentation, and am trying to find a specific kind of imagery, involving a ship's wheel. I'm thinking of a scene in which one person is trying to change a ship's direction, and is straining against the wheel to desperately try to turn the ship. Steering wheels might also be okay. I'm hoping for a clear, single image that presents the person as struggling against turning the wheel. Think: 'Oh my god! We're about to crash into the iceberg/road/etc! Pull up! Turn left, turn left! etc." Thanks AskMe!

So, I'm taking a course about the geography of economic activities. For a project, we're tasked with picking a "packaged food, a cleaning product, or a personal care product" (per the instructions). We are then tasked with using the label and the manufacturers' customer's hotlines to determine "where that product is manufactured; second, what inputs/components/ingredients are used to make the product; and then, where do those inputs/components/ingredients come from." Lastly we're supposed to creatively visualize our findings, most probably in map form. [more inside]

After years of trouble-free operation, my 4 year old Linksys N750 wifi router has begun having problems, mainly that it drops the internet connection on the 2.4 G band (but not the 5 G band curiously enough). That is to say, the 2.4G Wifi connection isn't itself lost, just that the 2.4G channel loses its internet connectivity. It seems to happen mostly in the evenings. Since my phone and the Wii we watch Netflix through can only use 2.4G, this has become very annoying. [more inside]

A few seconds after tossing it in the trash, my nose started running, my eyes started to water, and my lungs filled up like I had bronchitis. I coughed deeply and uncontrollably for about 10 minutes. The coughing has mostly passed, but I still feel congested and runny and rather queasy and my eyes are still burning a little. The gym sock smell of the cheese has turned into a flavor that I can't wash out of my mouth. I feel absolutely horrid. What can I do to feel better? Do I need a doctor?
You know that game when you grab someone's forearm with both hands and twist back and forth in opposite directions? In Swedish it's called "tusennålar" - thousand needles. My kid asked me what it's called in English and I hesitated to tell him "Indian burn" which is what I remember. Surely there is something better? Help me out please.
I recently moved into my first apartment (hooray!) and I've inherited a few pieces of furniture I'd like to take care of. First on my list is a kitchen table that needs to be refinished. I always wanted to be an engineer so I chose computer science because I was in love with it and wanted to know more about data structures; After being accepted into the programs at a school close to home I worked really hard but during my second semester I had a really bad family emergency that put a dent in my education and got me to perform really poorly and soon I was dismissed for 1 full semester upon returning I went to talk to the director of engineering since my advisor recommended I go see them but she wouldn't let me continue in engineering and told me I needed to find a major outside of engineering but I don't like other majors I like engineering upon hearing this it made me loose hope about education but I went to the dean she told me to complete my summer education and upon completing them and getting to the GPA required by the computer science department she's see the next step for. We'd like the name to be relevant to our offerings, but we're finding it difficult to make any reference without it sounding potentially judgmental or self-righteous. Any ideas?

While driving home from work yesterday afternoon during somewhat-cloudy daylight, I suddenly noticed a bright bluish glow on nearby objects, heard a loud hum that sounded like it had 60/120ish Hz components, and felt a strange tingling/vibrating sensation in my upper body. When I got home, I checked the power company's outage map and saw that there was a ~500-customer outage centered around the area where this happened, which started around the time I drove through the area. The stated cause of the outage was "equipment problem." Because of this, I am guessing there was some kind of fault in the roadside electric distribution system which caused all of this, and I have some questions about what might have happened. Hi All, One of my favorite people is my grandpa. He is in his 80s, living with my aunt and depressed. When i get a job, I will be able to fly and visit him. Until then, anything fun I can do with him over the phone to cheer him up? I am trying to think of a fun "game", something that we can share. He likes golf, so I will goggle Tiger Woods sometimes before we talk to be up on the latest. I am not really sure what I am asking here, but maybe you get it, and might have some fun tips. With others I ask about the highs and lows of the week, but you know he does not have much going on. Maybe I could help him start a project. OK, thanks :)

Hey everyone! I've got a tough decision in front of me... I am lucky enough to be in a position where I have to choose between two job offers. One of these companies is American Eagle Outfitters and I would be working as a graphic designer in the corporate office in Pittsburgh. The other job is at yet another big PGH company, but for a slightly different position. I know people that work or have worked for the second company, so I've got the scoop on that option... However, I don't have any "inside info" on working for AE. Essentially, my position at AE is being called a "freelance" job, but I'd be working in the office 5 days a week with varying hours (and I'd be a W2 employee). That is a bit confusing to me, as (through personal experience) the words "freelance" and "W2" usually don't go hand-in-hand. ;) Anyway, sorry... rambling! Has anyone here "freelanced" for AE Corporate in the past and can give me some info on how it went/what it was like/etc.? I've got a big decision to make by end of day Monday!

When I use Windows Media Player to bounce around songs in a playlist that basically consists of multiple full-length albums, the volume changes by song because of the audio quality/production of different albums. For example, a song from the '80s will sound fine on one volume setting but a more modern song will sound way too loud at the same volume. I tend to be a high anxiety perfectionist and for many many years have "organized" my life with elaborate to-do lists and systems for recurring tasks. Recently, I started getting into minimalism and decided at the beginning of this year when I couldn't find a planner I liked to just go cold turkey and try to live my life without a to do list. I instantly felt so much better - like I was actually living my life and paying attention to things and people rather than always being stressed about the checking off the next thing on my list. If I saw something that needed to be done I did it and then effing relaxed. The only problem was, I did sometimes forget things that were important but not right in front of me for whatever reason, like ordering my dog's meds or reserving a car for an upcoming vacation. So, I am wondering: is there a middle way? Something that will help me remember the important things I tend to forget but not tempt me to overplan my life?

I've spent a couple of hours (!) browsing and they all seem to sound the same, but I don't know which actually work well (especially waterproof-wise). I'd love to hear any of your recommendations from personal experience. Specific requirements for my situation inside. [more inside]
"Help me do my job" filter. I work for a tech company, as a software developer/manager. Our group (a dozen people or so, including the managers/senior developers) has recently merged with another, and between us we now have a lot of "core platform" technology that is duplicated across all the varied products (think - user authorization/authentication, user preference storing, file validation, core business tasks like matching names to identifying numbers). And now we want to consolidate these so there is only 1 piece of software doing the core platform work. How do we do this? [more inside]
So my email address is in the Ashley Madison hack. Not sure what to do, if anything. I am not married and never have been. I wasn't in a relationship when I signed up. In fact, I was just getting out of a relationship and I joined one night when I was feeling sad and lonely and I wanted to see what it was like. I thought AM was more for NSA relationships than specifically for cheaters. I'm a graduate student and I used my .edu address. This was really dumb, but I wasn't thinking straight at the time. So how worried should I be? [more inside]

So I am spending next week on a friend's sailboat, mostly in the Canadian San Juan islands. I was menu planning and it occurred to me: The ocean is FULL OF FISH. Couldn't I just drop a line overboard as we cruise and pull it up later with a tasty fish dinner attached? Or when we are anchored off shore overnight? And if so what simple gear would do the trick? I own basic freshwater spinning gear.

We have a nice small place in a large building. The basement is damp and has had some mold issues and we have no hope that paper (e.g., books) will not be damaged if we put it in normal boxes. But, we also have a growing family and limited space. Some stuff will go to the curb, but we need a waterproof storage solution. Are there waterproof storage solutions that are a step above trashbags in a rubbermaid? Something affordable but decent?

What does this presbyopia-correcting IOL do exactly? And is it worth the money for me? I am very confused. Tanks
I love my Keen Newport sandals. Specifically: the arch support. They're now not only my summer outdoor shoe of choice but what I wear at the gym as well. I am aware of open source alternatives like Inkscape but am hoping there is a way to get the Adobe versions at a reasonable price.

Although I think there were three parts at play. Does this ring a bell with anyone?

There seems to be so much crank pot literature about it out there. How do I avoid that stuff? [more inside]

I’m four and a half months through a six-month (two nights a week, two hours a night) course in electronic music production. I use Baydin's Email Game (https://emailgame.baydin.com/) to process email. I just got a new job, and my new company is requiring me to use Outlook Express or Apple Mail instead of gmail. Baydin's website only works with gmail or with Google Apps. So I'm looking for some kind of plug-in or add-on for Express or Apple Mail that has similar functionality to the Email Game--especially a timer showing how long I've spent on each email. Does anybody know of anything like this?

I'm trying to help some art directors deal with the looming demise of Flash banner development (largely driven by Google having Chrome essentially neuter them this Fall). What are some good resources I can share with them to re-align their thinking toward the possibilities and limitations of HTML5? These are designers, not coders, so I'm thinking less about "use Sizzle or Zepto", though they would need to be mindful about what kinds of compositions have more/less efficient payloads than Flash.
My fiancé and I are planning on having a smallish wedding, and we are organizing it relatively quick (only 7 months in all). We cut our invite list down to 45 guests and found a perfect reception hall that provides catering (cocktails and sit-down dinner) for a maximum of exactly 45 guests. Yay, perfect! Beautiful location, great prices, and no need to find a caterer. Until his father announced that he is inviting 5 guests . . . . [more inside]

I'd like to know the name of an old classic Mac OS shareware/freeware game I played as a kid (probably within a year or two of 1997). It was actually more of a freeware tech demo than a finished game. It had un-textured polygonal 3D graphics that were interlaced. You played as a (yellow?) wedge-shaped spaceship and flew around a semi-urbanized island. The spaceship could shoot, and there were other ships in an area that you could blow up, but there was no point-system or objectives. It may have had no sound, either. I remember being very impressed by the graphics at the time. [more inside]
Recently my 62-year-old mom mom was hospitalized and committed due to—as best I can gather from a vague diagnosis—Wernicke-Korsakoff syndrome (aka "wet brain") as a result of alcoholism, malnutrition and thiamine deficiency (Here's my previous question on this subject). Now she's home, but unable to live on her own—though she can't admit it. Help me convince her she needs in-home care. Details below. [more inside]

Many classic movies are famous and important without being very entertaining to contemporary viewers. But others feel surprisingly fresh, in the sense that they still hold up as entertainment: funny qua comedy (rather than funny-for-their-time), or scary qua horror (rather than scary-to-1950s-audiences). I'm looking for recommendations of old films that you think have aged particularly well. Which oldies successfully make you laugh/scream/cry/think on their own terms, without you having to put yourself in the shoes of bygone audiences? [more inside]

In the late 1980s, I remember seeing something on television that featured some kids picking up a signal/broadcast from outer space. The broadcast contained an alien news show. It was a standard type of news show with male and female aliens at a news desk with an inset in the top corner. The aliens were sort of heavy-set, not your generic, skinny bug-eyed aliens. I don't think it was intended to be scary but it kind of freaked me out as a 7-year old and it has stuck with me to this day. [more inside]

Hi, I have a long term female friend who stays in a long distance, we used to chat on and off for many years and especially the last few months we had spent hours of chatting almost every day. We were very much supportive each other ,had a lot of fun talks and used to discuss almost everything, shared a nice time and eventually became really close. But gradually she seemed to be a bit less active for almost a month but still managed to chat (some days energetic, some days not) and started doing less initiation of talks from her. Since I felt this is a bit strange as to what we used to, I asked onetime in a quiet way where she just said there is nothing bothering her as the way I thought. But eventually she became in a situation of not feeling to text or talk and told me the same when I asked about it. [more inside]

When I was very young I slept next to my parents' room. Every night they listened to an album of Gospel music. It was an Englishman with a piano. It's possible the singer was someone who traveled between churches in the 1970s?

I have 2000 Toyota Camry LE, 6 cyl, 5 speed. I want to keep it and repaint it. A body shop told me that to remove the 20 or so dime-sized dents that pepper it, the half dozen eraser sized chipped paint spots and a hand sized dent under the door handle, as well as paint would cost between six and seven thousand dollars. He said he has to take the car apart to do the body work. He also told me European made paint, along with $50/hr labor is a big part of the cost. He said if I was a member of his family, he would tell me it's not worth repainting and I should just drive it until it falls apart. He said repainting would be a bad financial decision. We'd like to adopt a dog, but are confused about the possible effect on our homeowner's insurance, and would love some input. So my sister is getting married next week, and I'm the Maid of Honor and have been planning her bachelorette party for months. However, her groom -- for various reasons I won't bore you with -- has found no one on his side is going to be throwing him a bachelor party. I'm thinking I may have to swiftly organize a bachelor party or some kind of event for the groom as well, to keep my sister happy and of course for his own enjoyment. Are there any ideas for what to do? [more inside]
After thinking I had major sinus problems for the past year, I now think I'm allergic to down and/or wool. (Based on intense facial pain, headache and congestion for the entire day after sleeping with those beddiings, and none without- I just did a personal 3 day experiment). However, I did allergy tests this year and they came up negative. Can you get specific testing for these items? Has anyone experienced this? Do allergies really just appear at 'a certain age'? If so, can anyone recommend a good allergist in NYC?

The last time I had a bi-fold door, I got so frustrated that I took it down and destroyed it with a hammer. My wife, who is generally an extremely sensible person, wants to replace the regular hinged doors that cover our washer-dryer area with a bi-fold door. I have reacted strongly to this suggestion. I am willing to entertain the idea that I'm wrong. Has the quality of bi-fold doors improved? Do other people dislike them as much as I do (and, therefore, be turned off by them when we eventually sell our place?)

So, I am married to a very pretty guy. We are both mid 30s. His entire relationship history includes women just throwing themselves at him, so he hasn't had to ever make any effort to learn how to be romantic or initiate foreplay. His current method is to just tell me he wants to have sex. When I complained that his method wasn't enough for me, he asked me what I want him to do. It is like I'm dealing with an adolescent boy. What resources could I steer him towards that don't include a sex therapist?
Another (prev.) Facebook privacy/blocking question. An anomaly in FB blocking is that the blockee can see the total # likes and comments on the main page (including people who've blocked you), but the blockers likes/comments are not apparent within the post (so there's an obvious arithmetic disparity if you look closely). At times I have really enjoyed the popcorny thrillers of Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child (e.g., The Relic or Still Life with Crows) but over time, they've gotten so dumb (and formulaic) that I can't really stomach any more. Can you give me some suggestions for similarly tense, page-turning fare, whether natural or supernatural; ideally, high-tension, low gore, and I shouldn't be groaning over plot stupidities every other page.

Last night I cooked with jalapenos. I washed my hands really well, but some oil seems to have gotten under my thumbnail, down where the nail separates from the bed. (If I look through my nail, I can see a tiny red line of inflammation there, in addition to feeling the burn.) Despite having dulled overnight, this is still extremely distracting and uncomfortable. How can I get down under there and fix this? Extra level of difficulty: because we mostly cook vegan food, I have no dairy products in my kitchen.
I am applying for a librarian job in my town. I would like to submit my resume, cover letter, and references (all requested in the job posting) today so I can stop with the rewrites already. However, I'm not sure how to submit my cover letter. Do I: 1) send it in the body of the email? If so, do I also attached it as a pdf? OR do I 2) send it as an attachment only, and in that case what do I say in the email? Googling gets me nowhere - or rather, it gets me both answers. Thanks AskMeFi!

I know it may be a ridiculous question, but I have to ask. How do smells pass through walls? I recently transferred into a new apartment (same building, different unit), and I'm getting crazy smells coming through the walls from a neighboring unit. Common sense tells me that the walls are insulated at least enough that when a neighbor makes dinner, the smell shouldn't immediately flood into my apartment unless there are gaps somewhere. The smells aren't coming through windows or doors, and the construction in my building is... weird. [more inside]

I’m a lawyer, and have been working in civil litigation for 10 years. It never felt right, and I’m finally ready to make a change. My undergraduate was in psychology and I’ve always thought that I would feel more fulfilled working in that field. So, I’m scheduled to start graduate school next month to get my masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. I’m not sure that I want to work as a therapist, but it feels like that would be in the right direction. As I get closer to needing to quit my law job, I’m wondering if there is an easier way to get into my ideal career that doesn’t require the time and expense of going back to school. The problem is that I’m not sure exactly what I want to do. I sense it is something related to working on public policy for mental health issues, particularly concerning foster children or in the juvenile courts. Maybe working in the administration of a foster home, at a mental health non-profit, at a government mental health agency, etc.? I would really appreciate any thoughts, ideas of where to search, or if anyone has experience with this type of work. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've been reading about SC CO2 extraction. CO2 is neutral in charge (as I have come to understand), so I am uncertain how it attracts the stuff (caffeine, cannaboids, antioxidants, et al.) that it draws out in this process. Does the charge change in the fluid state? You don't have to explain it like I'm 5, more like I took Chem 101 a long time ago.

I think the song is about two people who lose each other in a crowd in front of a the church, basilica, or statue of a saint. I think the song is named after that saint. This song is hauntingly beautiful, the rhythm twinkles and meanders throughout, and in the middle, any classical melody or rhythm completely lost for a minute, the parts/layers of the music overlapping out of phase. Then the same parts are played together, locked in phase at the end. [more inside]

I live in a rural area, and there are several large hemp ('ditch weed') plants that are loaded with seeds. (BTW-- they are in an area where there's no danger of pesticides or herbicides; they are about as 'organic' as you can get). Thanks!

However, I'm afraid the watch will break due to the constant rough motion.

In the last year, I've noticed more people flying American flags from the beds of pickup trucks. I did some travelling earlier this month and also saw this in Arizona and Utah, but not in Washington DC. The reason for that geographic distinction might be obvious; a different demographic lives and works in the DC Metro area than Salt Lake, Tucson or Portland. But it reminds me of the couple of years right after 9-1-1, when people were flying little flags from their driver's windows. [more inside]
