I recently bought “Google Maps Applications with PHP and AJAX” and am already having a problem with the first chapter. Going over KML files and how they can be used to mark certain areas on a Google Map, the book gives an example of multiple points in Toronto. I followed the same example to try and mark a point in Yokosuka, Japan. When I view the Toronto example, it works fine. When I try my Yokosuka example, it just displays a point marker on a blank grey background; the map never loads. [more inside]

My OB has put me on "light activity" due to IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restriction) and a shortened ("funneling") cervix. He specifically said: No strenuous activity. No heavy lifting. I can go places as long as I drive and do not walk. I should stay off my feet as much as possible, and sit with my feet up. I should not take walks. He says this is "almost bedrest, but not quite". This all seemed self-explanatory when I was at the office, but now I'm not exactly sure what I need to be doing. [more inside]

Uh... I'm a mac user, on adium. When I log into gmail via browser, the chat option within the browser doesn't work. Due to several simultaneous personal disasters (romantic, financial, social, professional), I need to deal with my (long-standing) anxiety problems right away. Please help me find the resource I need -- I live in Somerville MA (near the red line, but have no car), would prefer free or a sliding scale, and would like to be prescribed medication. I'm not sure what assistance I might qualify for, I make ~$35K. Its very difficult for me to get time off of work, so I'd prefer to be seen on a weekend or after 5:30 on a weekday. I also have a ton of fear about the idea of seeing a therapist in the first place. GLBT resources would be appropriate, but not required. This seems impossible. Thanks for any advice.

My wife has landed a job as a professor at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. In anticipation of moving in August, we are visiting to look at apartments next weekend. What neighborhoods/areas (or specific locales) can you recommend for a young academic/professional couple on a budget? Some factors that we think add to a location: cultural amenities like book stores, music shops, good food, and music venues. We have read about Ghent and will check it out, but are there other neighborhood to look into as well?

I have a personal blog running under Movable Type. I want to move to WordPress. I've exported the existing entries to a text file, so that's good. However, a couple years ago my previous MT install tanked (similar to this). I cannot access it. I have several years worth of posts that are stuck in a database that I can't get to. I've been gradually moving these by hand to my existing MT install, but that's a pain in the ass. Is there some automated way to crawl/scrape the existing HTML files in order to retrieve these "lost" entries? Some way to break back into a corrupt MT database? Some way to repair it? (The install is BerkelyDB-based.) [more inside]
I went see Lyle Lovett & his Large Band last night and they did a song with a line about corn growing in Indiana. "Her First Mistake" mentions Alabama and Louisiana. Texas shows up in multiple songs, such as "That's Right (You're Not from Texas)." And of course there's "North Dakota" (which he did not perform last night). What other U.S. states does he mention in which of his songs? How about cities or other place names?

Graphic design and/or photoshop question. I'm designing a T-shirt, and I need to prepare/convert a photo I have of a car so that it is more T-shirt-ish. What I mean is, the photo is, well, photorealistic. Cars on shirts are usually sort of cartoony. Though I don't want to mess with the dimensions of the car and make it squished and bouncy looking. I just need the car to be less colors, or outlined, or ... something. I can't even really describe what I mean. Take a look at these images of T-shirts. [more inside]

I recently noticed what appears to be a slightly swollen (pea-sized) lymph node on the left side of my neck, about halfway up the neck. I first noticed it about 5 days ago. I can feel another node next to it, but on the right side of my neck, I can feel only one node in the same place. I don't have any other symptoms that might suggest lymphoma (itching, fever, night sweats, fatigue, weight loss). The swollen node does not feel hard or fixed, and it hasn't changed size. Is there cause for concern? I do have a blemish that I've sort of been picking at on the left side of my neck, so could that be the cause of the swollen node? I guess it's possible that this node has always been there but I haven't noticed it before. I do have hypochondriac tendencies. I'm 26 and had mono about four years ago.

I tend to sweat a lot on hot days and occasionally this ends up ruining nice shirts with pit stains. I've read plenty of threads about deodorants and anti-perspirants that could be helpful, but maybe I should address my long armpit hair. I can see both sides: More hair means more surface area for deodorant and keeps sweat from running (I think). Less hair means less surface area for sweat to stick onto but gets the deodorant closer to the pores. What's the way to go? I'm not considering shaving my pits, but more or less trimming them down short.

After only living in tiny apartments, I'm moving to a two story house, but I'm an utter newbie about household networking. Here's the main dilemma: Upstairs, in my office, my Macbook Pro will power an external monitor and keyboard. That's where I'll do most of my work. Downstairs, I intend to buy a 52" HD monitor to watch DVDs. I'd like the option to sometimes work down there....with the upstairs computer driving the downstairs monitor, and using a cordless keyboard that talks to the upstairs computer. Note: I won't ever need to drive monitors simultaneously. Is there any way to do this? Or do I need to buy a downstairs computer, and network the computers so both HD's are kept dynamically in synch (e.g. via Leopard's "Time Machine")? That'd be more expensive, though I could probably get away with using a pretty old/crappy computer downstairs (so long as its HD is at least as large as the one upstairs so they can synch properly, and so long as it has enough video ram to drive the large monitor).

Help me find a new (I think) nonfiction book about Germany in World War II. All I know about it: It MAY have been recently mentioned in the NY Times (a search there failed) and one memorable scene. I know it's not much to go on, but can anyone help?

Hi there, I am doing an honours project on the effects of boat noise on dolphin communication and my supervisor had this idea of using compression to analyse this. He basically suggested that we record dolphin vocalizations in the presence and absence of boat noise, and then compress the files and determine which compresses more (dolphin sounds with the boat noise, or dolphin sounds without the boat noise). His thinking was that less complex sounds should compress less...so he thinks that boat noise will compress less than dolphin vocalizations. Thus, if dolphin vocalizations happen to compress more in the presence of boat noise than they do without the boat noise...this would sort of imply they are "losing information" so to speak. Does this make sense? [more inside]
I've had this recurring armpit rash for several months now. At first I thought it was brought on by chafing (I do manual labor for a living). Then other members of my family started getting it (I could have got it from them). We've tried different types of bath soap and deodorant. I've just now switched away from different versions of the crystal deodorant stone. (I used the actual stone for about 15 years with no problems. I recently tried two different liquid versions). My wife thought it was a yeast infection that we're all passing around via the bath soap. I tried doing some googling and was overwhelmed at the plethora of different explanations that came up. Thought I'd give it a shot here. It's painful if it progresses too far. I've been keeping it in check with hydrocortisone cream.

My wife and I are avid travelers - we usually do one or two trips abroad each year. The past few trips have been to Rome and Athens. This year, we were thinking of going to Paris (we've not been there together). However, there are two problems: 1) the dollar is doing crap-all against the Euro. 2) we have one-year old twins. Suffice it to say, the budget for travel will be tight. We can take care of a place to stay and airfare. We don't eat expensively (we prefer to eat native) and our interests are museums, learning, and generally absorbing culture. What place in Europe will be relatively easy on the wallet?

Is an implant a solution to the terrible removeable bridge I just got? It's my front tooth and the tooth next to it. I hate the bridge, it hurts, I can't eat, what I do eat I can't taste, I can't talk--it sounds like I'm drunk I slur so much and all around I'm very unhappy. This removeable bridge replaces a failed fixed bridge. The root canal on the front tooth went bad and the fixed bridge to which it was attached failed and couldn't be repaired. I'm very unhappy with the new (temporary) bridge and wonder if I can get an implant instead of going ahead with permanent removeable bridge. Anyone have a similar experience or recommendation?

Veggie Tales has a Silly Song with Larry called Pizza Angel that sounds familiar, but I can't quite place it. The closest song I've found is Last Kiss, originally written by Wayne Cochran and later sung by Pearl Jam, but they aren't all that close. Some of the comments on the YouTube video suggested it was a parody of Johnny Angel or Teen Angel, but neither of the versions I found sounded like the origin of Pizza Angel. It’s quite possible this is an original composition, but it sounds so familiar. Does anyone know of a song that could have been the inspiration for Pizza Angel?

I love finding books and authors who have been forgotten until a long time fan decides to make their work available again through some labor of love small press. Do you know of a publisher that has a somewhat esoteric focus along these lines? Who are they? Fiction or non is fine. It doesn't have to be someone who republishes old books though. If you know a house that has great taste with contemporary authors, go ahead and share. However, since I have my PDA with me all the time and not my notebook, I would really like to use a CMS that I can access via my PDA. My screen size is 320x240 pixels. Most of the CMS systems I have ever seen don't translate well to a PDA screen. Are there any out there that do? I am looking for a system that I can host on my own servers. Thanks!

How'd they cook that egg? I ordered a "fried egg, over hard," and was presented with a normal fried egg but with what looked to be the yolk removed. There wasn't a hole in the egg, but rather just the skin of the yolk laying flacid over where one would normally see yellow. Upon further inspection, the yolk was actually "sandwiched" between the two cooked sides (top side and bottom side) of the egg white surrounding the yolk hole. It wasn't a fluke, as I got two eggs like this with my order. What is this type of egg called and how'd they do that?

Is it possible to tell the difference between an old, long-standing injury and a more recent injury to the brain on a brain scan? Would a particular type of brain scan (fMRI as opposed to CAT scan) be better able to reveal the difference between the two? This question would be pertinent to the Peter Braunstein case: earlier in the news coverage, they showed Braunstein's brain scan on television, because the defense claims that the decreased activity shown in the frontal region is consistent with schizophrenia. However, I understand Braunstein hit his head while in custody, and I'm thinking that could cause a similar result on the brain scan. I'm also wondering, could a brain scan show whether he got dropped on his head when he was a baby and/or all three possible conditions and when, approximately, they developed?

I am planning on buying my first home within the next year. Based on the information I have gathered thus far about how large of a mortgage I will be able to afford, I will be able to afford a home for approximately $130,000 maximum. This is assuming a $20,000 down payment and a $110,000 loan. Where I am looking, there are plenty of homes that I can see myself in that are $100,000 - $110,000, but I know that I would like to make improvements, such as new appliances, bathroom updates, that sort of thing. But, I will spend all of my savings on a downpayment. So my question is: How do people afford to fix up their new homes when they spend all of their money on the downpayment? Do lenders allow you to take a larger loan than you need to buy the home and use the rest of the money for improvements? Could I take a $110,000 loan, but only put $90,000 toward the house and use the rest for home improvement? Would I have to take a second loan just for home improvements?

I'm a long time mixtape (er CD..) enthusiast and MAc user, and I'd like to take things to the next level by actually doing some real mixing and looping etc in my creations. I've researched a lot of DJ tools (Tracktor, Logic, Mixxx, etc), but I'm not really interested in doing anything live or realtime. Nor do I particularly care to replicate decks. On the other hand, I don't think high-level audio production suites are what I'm looking for either. Overkill. Either way, the costs seem prohibitive in most cases. It boils down to this: I need to be able to beatmatch, crossfade, loop and save to mp3 and then split the resulting track into smaller ones of my choosing. My thoughts so far are to use a BPM counter in Itunes and then try my hand at Audacity. Don't really know how to split mp3s yet... Any alternative ideas or successful set-ups?

I'm having some trouble figuring out what my screen resolution should be. My monitor is the Dell UltraSharp Widescreen 2007WFP... which is a 20 inch widescreen. Its native resolution is 1680 x 1050. At this resolution everything is very clear and normal and good. However, everything is a bit too small for me to read comfortably. The monitor is maybe 2 - 2.5 feet away from my face, which I think is normal, but everything is still just a little on the too small side. Because of this, I've been using a 1280 x 800 resolution with a 96 DPI. Everything is easily and comfortably readable for me like this. The only problem is I lose a lot of screen real estate vs its native resolution, and everything becomes just a slight bit less clear. So, what I'm wondering is, what should my settings be? Thanks in advance for any help.

My wifes home health care business is an LLC so does that mean all our personal assets are protected?
My wife owns a home health care business with some other nurses and she says that because it's a LLC, our home, 401k, and other personal assets are safe from being used in a judgement. Is it that simple? My wife who's been an RN for many years, has never even had nurses liability insurance (and still doesn't) so I'm not sure if she understands what her personal risks are as a nurse.

After my ears healed enough to take the training studs out, I switched to cute little hypoallergenic studs of unknown silver metal, from Clair’s. However, they still have to be left in overnight, and one day when I was taking them out, instead of the usual light flaking of a new piercing I discovered black crumbly crud. Is this the dreaded tarnish that dyes your ear? The earrings themselves are still perfect, with no blemishes to the part that goes in the hole, but the holes are now dark and still shed lightly.

We are a upstate NY local chorale, 10 years old now, reorganizing with a new director and we are not sure of the best legal setup. We want to have a board with officers so the chorus members can become more involved in management. Currently there is just a tax ID#. Should we incorporate as a non-profit and get 501(c)(3) status? Just incorporate? We want to try and get grants to buy some risers, for example, and don't know if non-profit status would be required. But we are also thinking of raising money by paid singing gigs (as opposed to our regular community concerts where people donate to support us) and we don't know if we could still do that as a non-profit. We would like to know what other groups have done, and would be grateful for any advice.

Macromedia (sorry, Adobe) Director question. If I paste text from Word etc. into my Director text field, and I then select it and change it into an embedded font, will there be problems with curly quotes, em-dashes and such on other users' computers? Or does the "embedding" process enable me to use these characters? I don't care too much about curly quotes, but I do like my em-dashes & would rather not have to change them all to double hyphens.
Right now, I plan to start business school in the fall. It's a top five program, and in all likelihood, my salary after school will be about twice what I make now. That said, I'll be borrowing about $80K to cover the costs in the short-term. Is this a good idea? I'm excited about b-school in general but perhaps not to the extent that I'm willing to incur a debt that will burden me for decades to come.

We are semi-retired and live (and grew up) in Chicago. I went to college in a little river town along the Mississippi in Iowa and we're now thinking about moving to the Quad Cities as we are sick of the density, smog and crime in Chicago and long for slower, more peaceful days. There are some great running trails and fantastic old homes in Iowa in the Historic District, near the River, which appeal to us very much, but I'm worried about the lack of top notch hospitals/doctors and the fact that Iowa taxes both out of state pensions and Social Security. Any thoughts on the benefits or lack of same of the Quads? My husband and I both have some health problems but not immediate ones . Our specialists are in Chicago but I hate to think that we will not be able to enjoy the rest of our lives (we are 63 and 64) waiting for the Grim Reaper or trip to the ER. Thanks for any help.

I'm loking for a small, not too expensive inkjet printer for mostly black and white printing of documents. Footprint (size) is important but I don't want a "portable" which seem expensive. Thanks for your recommendations
According to aa.com, my flight departure this morning is delayed by an hour. I haven't left the house yet. How big a risk is it, though, to show up to the airport an hour later than I had planned? Do they ever "move up" a delay, thinking that it is convenient to the people already waiting? If so, what is the point of showing me that it is delayed?
After being baptized, Jesus immediately went into the desert for 40 days, where he was tempted by the devil. When he came back, he was a transformed man. He was suddenly spouting very clever things (still quoted 2000 years later), and in a few weeks, he had a constant crowd of hundreds to thousands of people around him. What can happen in 40 days that transforms a man from an uneducated carpenter to the greatest philosophical influence that ever existed? [more inside]

Price is not an issue, as the watch is the only thing I have from my great-grandmother and is of the utmost sentimental value.
