I need to have an older pair of Soloman inline skates serviced - they need new axles. However - I don't know the model name for this specific pair. The only marking on the skates is Powerarch DR85. Poking around online reveals several sources for axles - but I don't know what size to order.
Anyone know what I need to order (specifically?) Or is there a great skate shop in Chicago where I could have these serviced?
And - unfortunately - I don't have the old axles.
Thanks!

I'm a graphic designer (InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects) who wants to be able to use 3D imagery in my work but I have little to no interest in modelling things myself. I'm very interested in animating in 3D space and playing with lights and cameras. No supercomplicated Pixar-like stuff (no characters), just moving around still (buildings etc) or almost still (flowers etc.) objects. For instance: right now I need to make an animation of some playing cards flying/falling away from the camera. I want to do this in 3D space and would like to be able to 'bend' the cards to exaggerate the movement. Is it possible for me to buy a stock 3D model of a playing card somewhere (where?) and add my own design to them? What 3D software would be most suitable for my purposes? I'm thinking it might be wise to pick the software that has the most enthusiastic modelsharing community...

The Hancock building in Chicago has two different tower lighting systems. During the night the antenna structures have red lights to warn away aircraft. During the day the towers have strobes. Since I was a kid the towers always had red lights. Why did they make the change? It seems like two different systems would need twice as much maintenance.

I think that a thesaurus that was organized in terms of which adjectives typically go with which nouns would be really useful. Like, the adjectives that modify the verb "urge" (as in deep or unfulfilled, say). Same thing could be done for adverbs, e.g., ones that modify "talk" (relentlessly, incessantly, insightfully).
I am aware of WordNet and many other on-line lexical databases like the BNC. I'm looking for something like a compiled list, based on actual usage, of what modifies what.
thanks.

What song is
this?
Ethereal and moody vocals (not quite spy, not quite gothic, but leaning ecletic), jazz rock background, sounds a bit like early Goldfrapp, or Morphine, or maybe even Darling Violetta. (All pretty approximate.)
Very rough lyrics:
I call you Tracy,
You get along,
You lovely...
sing me your song.
I call you darling,
I know it's strong.
I bet...
...and on.
Show goes on.
Show goes on.
I call you ...
...
I call you Liza B.
I wish I could see
That maybe it's only my dream.
It's only my dream.
Show goes on.
Show goes on.
I miss...
...queen of bees (beasts?).
That honey Suzie,
bewitched by me.
I think you're...
what else can be?
...
...
Be my promise breaker,
...
delusion maker,
...
I wish I could see,
It's only my dream.
Show goes on,
The show goes on.

After a lifetime of no weight problems, I am about 30 pounds overweight (this has happened over the past 5 years) but have not changed my eating or exercise habits since my pre-weight-gain days. My doctor says that I have no health problems (my thyroid, cholesterol, and blood sugar have all been checked.) I probably consume around 2000-2400 calories a day and I exercise fairly regularly (3x/week). I haven't had any undue stress or strife in my life, and lead a happy, normal life. I'm a female, late 30s, and am finding it next to impossible to lose the weight. If I try to cut calories even for a day, I find that I am totally starving, and I feel weak, cranky, and dopey (I have a very hard time concentrating at work when I try to eat less). A few months ago my car was hit (hit & run) while parked on the street (ahh, city living). I filed the police report, and went to my insurance company. They assesed the damage and gave me a check (made out to me) to get my car repaired. I still haven't gotten it repaired. It's an older car (2000) and I won't sell it ever (plan to drive it till it dies- which should be about 10 more years because I rarely drive).
Would it be fraud for me to say heck with repairing it and keep the check? Will I regret not having it repaired?

I've currently got a HP Mini-Note 2133 running Ubuntu. I was going to take a stab at installing OS X on it this coming weekend when I realized I could get a 12" iBook or PowerBook G4 for roughly the same price and it would still be small enough I wouldn't mind carrying it around with me all the time and it would run OS X with no hassle. I'd keep my MacPro as my primary workstation that I use for image editing and such, this would just be for email and for surfing the web on the go. If I get a G4 era laptop and install Leopard on it (want to use Back to My Mac after I roll my own dot mac) will I have any issues? I've only recently become a Mac user after years on Linux, so I never used a PPC-based system. Will application like Camino, Mail, Adium, etc all run with no problems? This is what the universal binary thing is all about, right?
Anything else I should be aware of? Any tips or tricks for slimming down 10.5 to make it run better on the older hardware?
Thanks!

Back in the 1980s, I remember watching a bizarre sort of Indiana Jones-copycat treasure-hunting/western movie. It featured a young, blond Daryl Hannah lookalike and possibly Aztecs who liked to
dip humans head-first in liquid gold before decapitating them. It was fairly violent stuff, and one scene had the characters being horrified when one of their comrades returned headless on a horse. The whole thing must have been somewhat tongue-in-cheek, however, because it ended with a humorous 70s-style montage that set up a (presumably fake) sequel with the blond girl as a butt-kicking Indy-type heroine. I am pretty sure it was made in the 80s, and I remember the dialogue as being English, but I could be wrong; all I know is that Bud Spencer and Terence Hill weren't in it. Ring any bells?

Anything discussed on Mefi recently? Thanks.

There is a stock audio clip used all over the place in which you can hear a dispatcher say "Beta ... something something", I can never make out anything past "Beta" but it's very common. The last place I heard it was in one of the latest Arby's commercials where a paramedic is getting into an ambulance for some reason or other. And the first place I remember hearing it is in Sim City 2000 when you call in the police it would play this audio clip every time. I am looking for as much information as I can find out about it, and my google-fu has failed me. Specifically I would like to know what the dispatcher says.

Can a person purchase a home from her own family trust?
Problem: my friend's dad died a few months ago and left his estate plus the family home in a trust set up for his 3 adult kids.
My friend and her sister want to buy the house from the family estate (their brother is against this and wants to sell it "as is" on the open market) but they are running into a problem as their lawyer and others say you can't buy a house from "yourself."
Can this be true? We live in Illinois. Thank you.
