I read a book sometime in elementary school (early/mid 90's) that I've been trying to find. It had to do with geometry and math and platonic solids and origami (I believe there were several nods to Flatland). The plot had something about evil army men toys and a boy having a fever dream. I think the cover had a picture of the boy riding a manta ray. [more inside]

I am hoping for a little help with my program and supplementation. [more inside]

Last night all was fine when I sat down. When I got up twenty minutes later I began to walk and it felt like there was a wad of gum under the ball of my foot. I checked and under the callous at the distal end of my first metatarsal it is visibly swollen. The area is nearly a quarter inch thicker than the same area on my other foot. The area is not painful, but the shear size of it makes me walk funny. I'll go to the Dr. on Monday, but until then, does anyone have any ideas about what it can be? Googling hasn't given me any clues.

Feline anemia. Our youngish (4 year old) male short-haired domestic began feeling lethargic about a month ago. We took him to the veterinarian yesterday. He had a red-blood-cell count of 8% and was prescribed dioxycycline (to get rid of any possible infections causing the anemia) and prednisone (to suppress the immune system, preventing destruction of the few remaining red blood cells the poor guy has). Questions: Any experiences with feline anemia? Prognoses? Advice? Anything will help! Thanks!

Question for divorced men who have since remarried, gotten into a serious relationship: how long after separating before you felt ready to date someone seriously. Not when DID you start dating or not, but when did you feel in your heart that you were ready to date. And was sealing custody/alimony deals a part of this, i.e. did you need this stuff nailed down before you felt ready to "start a new life." And did you feel like you needed a second adolescence after the divorce, whether that meant going wild, or just spending a lot of time doing whatever you wanted, without having to consider someone else's feelings/schedule.

I don't think I'm ever going to get the item, and at this point I'd like to get my money back as quickly and with as little hassle as possible. Should I initiate a dispute with my credit card company, ebay, or Paypal?

I'm looking for a famous old photograph. I can see it in my mind but don't know what its title is. It's possible it's by Henri Cartier-Bresson, but maybe not. The photo is taken from inside an art gallery, and through the window can be seen a middle aged man and woman. The woman is saying something to the man about a painting that's in front of them, but the man is peeking sideways at another painting that depicts a nude woman. I love this photo, I think it sums up so much of human experience in one image. Also, I remember that this photo is part of a series of photos depicting the reactions of different people (including children and a cop) to the nude painting. I'm sure someone out there will know the title and photographer. Thank you!

Opal thanks you all.
I am considering moving to Santa Cruz for a Ph.D program. I visited the city for 4 days last week and really enjoyed the area. Everyone I have talked to mentions how expensive it is. It is true that housing is extremely expensive, renting too. But, I didn't find the food in the grocery stores to be outrageous, eating out wasn't terrible either. Unless I'm missing something, its the housing which gives the city its stigma for being expensive. Plus, there are 140 Ph.D students at UCSC which obviously make ends meet in some way (albeit poor college student life isn't too bad). Am I close to correct here? Also, I'd love to know what you think of the area!!

My question is, since they have to know I no longer have the car in PA with the Tx title and insurance, what happens if I don't send the PA plates back? I've tried to call them twice but each time after being on hold more than 15 minutes I hung up. I can unpack boxes and get the plates to mail back but if I don't have to I'd rather save my money that I'd spend on sending them back. Plus there is the issue that the window stickers were thrown away. Anyone been in this situation?

Is there a journalistic protocol that newspapers adhere to when printing letters to the editor? The small town newspaper from where I grew up typically just posts a random assortment of letters from old codgers. However, in the last 3 years or so it has been posting, on an almost weekly basis, letters written by a local man who founded a very prominent White Nationalist organization, and who at one time was one of the most prominent neo-Nazis in America. My formal educational background/profession is in a different area, but I would be interested in teaching a seminar on spirituality, comparative religion, and philosophy at a university. I've studied these areas informally. Anyway, I want it to be mostly a participatory, discussion-oriented class, not one where I pass down my knowledge from on high. How hard would this be to do and how should I go about doing it -- esp. at a well-known university like, say, NYU? I don't need much if any compensation.

I am a 38-year-old man who has many good qualities (I hope so at least) but two drawbacks which understandably be dealbreakers for most women - I am impotent and I have a small penis (around 4 inches on the rare occasions it is erect), so even if my impotence got treated I am not sure I could satisfy a women. On the other hand, I have heard that it's possible to have satisfactory sex life with a 3 inch penis, but have no idea how that can be. So basically I am what would be a figure of ridicule for many other men, and not exactly a strong candidate to be a boyfriend for most women either. However I know some women while still heterosexual may not want a sexual partner e.g. they may be celibate for whatever reason. And there may even be women who will overlook a sex life without penetrative sex for the right person. I have just come out of a four-year relationship which had lots of affection and companionship but not strong feelings of passion and obviously no sex, but I eventually want another relationship again and believe I have a lot of love to give the right person. After receiving mixed advice three months ago, I bought an HP Pavilion Elite m9150f running Vista Home Premium. Neither works, although I do get a helpful message stating that "a recent upgrade" may be causing problems. The computer can boot into Fedora 8, so it's not hosed, but I've run through my limited bag of Windows tricks. Any suggestions?

My neighbor is very generous - too generous! Her young son and my kids play together fairly often, and each time my kids go to their house to visit, my neighbor sends my kids home with several gifts. Sometimes if she sees my kids playing in the back yard she just hands gifts over the fence. Last time it was a large tin of cookies, a box of Whoppers candies, and a Vitamin Water style drink. In the past gifts have included a hand-knit scarf, brand new clothes, a doll, a box of donuts, and a large plate of homemade fried chicken. At Lunar New Year she gave each of my kids ten bucks plus a box of sweet rolls. I don’t know this woman well at all. We’ve said ‘hi’ a few times but her English is limited and I don’t speak her language which I believe is Thai. I get the sense that our different expectations around gift giving are related to cultural differences (she’s an immigrant from SE Asia, I’m white, born and raised in California), and maybe also that she is just a particularly (or maybe compulsively) gift-giving person. I have a JVC GZ-HD7 Everio HD Camera and I’m having some trouble using the video. I download the video from the camera and it looks great however to use it anywhere requires me to convert it. I’ve tried Camtasia, Sony Vegas 7, Quicktime Pro, several converters like Kingdia and Cucusoft. The end result is always a video that looks like it was shot with a $10 video camera. Is there someway to get the .TOD videos in a usable format that maintains its quality, so I can edit them and create final videos. A tool that would also allow me to letterbox or crop the 16:9 to 4:3. Thanks so much for your time. Have a great one.

I have two separate Dell desktops: (A) one with dual CD burners and, (B) one with a DVD-ROM & separate CD-burner. They have reasonably equivalent CPUs (2.66-3.1 GHz) but B has twice the RAM of A (1 Gb vs 512 Kb). I just bought a DVD burner since they seem insanely cheap (yeah, I'm really with the times - what's Blu-Ray, duh!). Never having burned DVDs, I'm wondering if it makes more sense to install the burner on A, so that I have DVD read capability on both computers; or on B, under the assumption that the greater RAM & dual DVD units would make DVD-to-DVD copying more user-friendly/faster. Is that a BS assumption, or is it reasonably painless to copy DVDs using a single drive? Your thoughts?

I'm trying to track down something I remembered watching on television a long time ago. The only thing I can really remember is the climax of the story, which I vaguely recall was about these parents or caretakers (babysitters, perhaps) telling two young children about some kind of bogeyman. At the end, a giant arm reaches through the front door and grabs them while the children watch. I have a feeling it could have been an episode of an Outer Limits type show, or maybe a Trilogy of Terror type thing.

In relationships, I'm very, very afraid of the possibility having to break up and hurting the other person. DTMFA threads like this make me want to hide under my bed. I often don't get into relationships or pre-emptively end relationships quickly -- even if things are going great -- if I can imagine a time in the future when things won't work out. The fear makes it hard for me to know myself how I really feel. So my question to you all: can you give me advice -- maybe links to psychological studies or just from your own life experiences-- on how someone can know if a relationship is worth pursuing. Not looking for guarantees of eternal happiness and marriage, just the knowledge that even if things don't work out, I'm pursing the relationship in good faith... and not being an asshole. I have been in what I think is a co-dependant relationship for over four years, and things have been hard recently for me to recover from mental illness and start working again. I think we are simply stuck in a rut now, I also feel more like a good friend or roommate rather than a romantic partner (that's probably at least 50% my fault though as I have low libido anyway) and it's best we are apart. My boyfriend of almost 3 years and I have been living together for a year and a half. About a year ago he decided he wanted to start making his own music, something he never had the chance to do earlier in his life. He's also a very successful grad student in a PHD program, so he thinks that before he graduates is the only time he will be able to devote enough time to making music while still being a good student. And now he's telling me that the only way he can really give this a shot is for us to not live together for a while so he can have some "space" to really discover himself and focus on his music whenever he's not in school. He says he wants to work on it so much that he would seem neglectful if we lived together. [more inside]
Here is the situation. I live near DC and would like to attend the Purdue - Baylor game, which is the 2nd game of session 1 on Thursday afternoon. Given that none of the 4 schools involved (Purdue - Baylor - Xavier - Georgia) are from the DC area, and none of them inspire particularly national followings, do you think I can score a good deal by waiting until after game 1 starts and working the ticket resellers loitering around the Verizon Center? I seem to recall watching plenty of first round games on TV where the arena was not even close to full because the teams were not local. I can buy on Ebay for close to face value, but if odds are good that I can save $100 on a pair of tickets by waiting until the last possible second, I'll take the risk. After all it's just a basketball game. Looking for input from anybody that might have attended early round games under similar circumstances in recent years.

He can't recall a lot of details, but here's what he has; I told him if anyone could help, it would be you guys, so don't let me down. :) - Male, relatively young, dark hair, beard - Probably an author, or if not, at least someone well-known - Possibly German or Russian, maybe of Jewish descent - Name may be Joseph or something similar, but not Stalin - Pretty sure it's a black & white photograph, which probably places him in the early 20th century I know this isn't a lot of information, but I figured it was worth a try.... Thanks!

I'm planning a trip to Tokyo mid-April and I'll be flying back to LHR on Apr 29th, which is Showa Day and the beginning of the Golden Week.
I'm told Narita is best avoided on that day, so I'm wondering if it's better to fly back a day earlier or, alternatively, a day later to make the most of any Showa day festivals.
Are there any festivals going on in Tokyo on that day? and, do museums, shops, etc stay open during Showa day?

However, there's fairly good evidence that the person who's managed the relative's affairs all these years (due to this relative being incapable of managing their own affairs) has intentionally sold a vast majority of that stock because they didn't want to draw down their own inheritance. I'm developing a web site to be accessible by mobile phone. One of the key requirements is data input into a form that is submitted back to the server. This has been developed and works fine. One of the features of my K610i Sony Ericsson mobile phone is text prediction or auto completion of words. This is a good feature on the text fields, but some fields only require integer or floats (e.g., 12.34567). Integers can be input by either holding down each key for a full second, or by switching the "Writing language" to "123..." (i.e., integer input). Both approaches add a few seconds to the input process, but I'd like to make this is quick as possible. My question is: Is there a way, perhaps with a tag on the form field, to force my mobile browser to switch to the integer input for those fields? Do other phone brands (Nokia, Siemens) do this differently? Would a third party mobile browser, such as Opera, handle this somehow?
