I currently have iTunes 6, and am reluctant to change to 7.0.2 based on all the horror stories I've read/heard. The problem is, I'd like to buy the new shuffle, but it lists system requirements as '7.0.2 or later.' Is this fact or crap? Can I use the new shuffle while remaining on version 6? I'm rather dim when it comes to stuff like this, so any insight is appreciated.

When I try to do this on my own I end up convinced I need a box that costs $12,000 and will be obsolete in a month. On the plus side, the only game I play is Tetris. They use this to predict pairs, trios, or quads of colors that are symmetrically placed in the wheel and therefore look nice or bad together. But, why does the continuum map to a circle at all?

I have a pair of stereo speakers that I want to use with my computer. My old receiver broke, so unless there's some way to hook stereo speakers directly up to a computer, I'll need a new one.
I want to find an inexpensive receiver that can turn on automatically when it gets a signal. I don't want to have to walk over and turn it on every time I want to play an MP3 or have to remember to turn it off. (I think my old one broke because I'd just leave it on all the time.) The only other thing I'd use it for is playing DVD audio, so it should work with that as well.
What's the best receiver to use for computer audio that will detect a signal and turn on by itself? Or should I just lose the stereo speakers and get a pair of computer speakers?

Health conscious, veggie friendly, no red meat (the potroast was popular, but I made a nonmeat alternative, and that's a lot of extra work). Preferably not incredibly untidy to eat, as it's buffet and laps. No Canned "Cream of" Soups. Money is not unlimited, so no lobster or caviar. What's the easiest way of doing this? I have a vague idea that I should use Perl and CGI. We've made a last minute decision to head to Florida over Christmas break. We'd like to stay somewhere in the panhandle region since it would be a fairly short drive for us (currently living in Alabama). Any recommendations for a particular beach/city? We'd like a place that's laid back, family oriented, and has nice clean sandy beaches to walk on and pick up shells. None of us cares for night life or shopping, but a good running/bike trail would be a plus.

Will Blu Ray make the modding of a PS3 that much harder?
I seem to remember that it only took a few months after the original PlayStation
and the PS2 came out, for people to figure out the way to mod them and make them play cracked games. Now, I'm far from an expert, but since every PS3 sold actually costs money to Sony it seems to me that once it becomes possible -- say, in the pring -- to mod the PS3 and people start sharing games like there's no tomorrow (the way it happened with the previous consoles) it could very well be a disaster for Sony. As I said I'm not an expert, though.

Now that I have the car, and need to get it registered, I need to track down the entity that actually has the lien on the car and get the lien removed. Any suggestions for tracking them down? Would be great it's within walking distance to a small local restaurant of sorts or even if it's just stalls. Does one exist? For the life of me, I have not been able to find any budget beach camping information online. I guess what makes it more difficult is that we'd like to be able to get there by bus and/or colectivo, if possible and it will be during the holidays! I knew I should have researched before booking but we got a good price and well...it will be winter and we could use the sun! Anyone BTDT? :)

I am writing a children's book (first time). I can't decide whether to use present or past tense. Here's a sample in present tense:
Bobby walks slowly into the water. The waves rush up over his feet, but he is not afraid because the same thing happened last time. He goes a little farther. And a little farther. The water is up to his knees.
and past tense:
Bobby walked slowly into the water. The waves rushed up over his feet, but he was not afraid because the same thing happened last time. He went a little farther. And a little farther. The water was up to his knees.
The present tense seems a little more "active", but past tense has certain story telling quality. Any comments on why I should use one or the other?

How do I approach the IRS? They got me - dead to rights - I screwed up a few years back, when rolling over my 401K into a IRA (then into a downpayment for my house). I *thought* my credit union paid taxes on that money when I rolled it over. I made a mistake. Now, that I'm "caught up", and ready to pony up the delinquent taxes, what the best way to ask the IRS to waive the penalties? Say "Pretty, please?" Everyone says one *can* negotiate with the IRS. So how, would one go about doing so? What might one do to make a positive outcome more likely?

OK. We've been in a house in San Diego for a few years. It has a fireplace with some kind of gas jet in it. The gas is controlled by what looks like a big key in the wall next to it. We've never really used this because, well, it's San Diego. Seems a little silly. But this weekend I got to thinking that it might be something interesting to have running while we eat our Thanksgiving sushi.
So ... how in the heck do we use this thing? I can turn on the gas and light it, and we get a "fire." But it's not particularly pleasant or romantic. Is this even the correct usage?? Or are we supposed to put some kind of logs or something in there?
Thanks.

Last night I got into a discussion with the proprietor of our local pub. For years I have heard from various sources that certain pubs in the united states get their Guinness airlifted in from Ireland (or the U.K.). Now I don't mean specially airlifted, simply that it comes in the cargo hold of an aer lingus flight or some such to maintain the ultimate freshness. One person who told me this is my wife's (born in Dublin) friend who worked for Guinness. Now the proprietor insists this is not true and told me if I can prove it I can drink free Guinness in his pub for the rest of my life. I can not find any evidence of this on the Internet, can anyone provide any evidence for this?

VoIP over EVDO. If you've tried it (especially on Sprint's Rev A EVDO), how do you like it? I'd be using Skype, using it rarely, and only using it during calls -- not leaving it
idling and using bandwidth. (With my current Sprint phone-as-modem setup on 1xRTT, I average 400-600ms pings -- i.e., too much latency for VoIP even if I had enough bandwidth. But on Sprint's
now active EVDO Rev A, they claim latency of 100-150ms and upstream averaging 300-400k.) Yes, I know EVDO is not in the TOS. And I connect primarily from NYC in strong-signal areas.

Hi everyone. My first question even though I've been reading for quite awhile. My wife is looking into Lasik in the Chicago or the Chicago suburbs. She is nearsighted with stigmatisms. She heard a commercial on our NPR for a Michigan Ave. laser clinic and called. They told her it would be $2,500-3,000 per eye. Her vision is precious to me and I certainly don't want to go to a cheap place but that seems insanely expensive. We're looking for recomendations of good doctors in the chicago area and information about whether this price is as high as it sounds to me. My feeling is we're paying for a posh Michigan Ave. location not for great doctors and service. Thanks everyone.

Does anybody know about the Broadcast Training Network? Is it a reliable school for broadcasting? Does its system work? Is it a good school? Or are they quacks looking for a quick buck?

I'm doing a code review and I'm keeping track of my findngs on an Excel spreadsheet. I need to generate reports that show vital details about the source code file being reviewed. Unfortunatley, as far as I can tell, MS Word 2003 generates one Word doc that has all oft he merged content in one file. How do I get it to create separate documents?

Help! Time-sensitive: My boss's boss, when editing, sees transparent placeholders inside his powerpoint everywhere there is an image (Images do show up, though, in actual slideshow - so they're there). Changing zoom didn't fix it.
Everyhting shows up ok on my computer. My Google-fu is failing me, and he's counting on me - got a quick fix?

Can anyone recommend a printer (or list of printers) to do a smallish run of a self-published book. I'm looking to take the next step from Lulu.

Good NYC barber? Not looking to pay salon prices. Bonus for old-school atmosphere and straight razor cut (no electric buzz cut, please).

I'm planning a sordid little affair in San Francisco and would like to find a nice hotel at which to play. Customarily for such things the event is overnight, but not this one and therefore check-in time is a major constraint.

If I purchase something, but it violates a patent, does liability transfer to me? Do I have to cease use of something I purchased because its original creator didn't manage the IP correctly? Might I, in fact, need to pay damages or sacrifice profits due to their tainted acquisition path? What law is specifically involved here?

What are some good fiction or SF books that plunge the reader within a severe economic collapse or Malthusian catastrophe in the U.S. or elsewhere in the world?
