Can I use a DVD+RW disc as if it were a CD-RW disc?

My girlfriend bought herself a pack of 10 DVD+RW discs, but her machine only has a CD-R(W) drive. Has she (as I fear) just acquired a set of expensive coasters, or can she burn onto them as if they were a normal CD-RW?

Nope.

I'm sure she can sell them to a friend that needs them...

Just in case you need to read it twice: No, you can't use them at all.

You can buy a DVD+-RW drive for $80 though.

Response by poster: Cheers all ........ I was kind of hoping that somewhere someone had written a clever program that tricked a CD-RW drive into thinking it had a CD-R inside ...... but in hindsight it does seem rather ridiculous to imagine why anyone would ever devote time to such a sensless project (using expensive media to simulate something cheaper and less useful).
