Teacher Tunes

I get to play one song a week for a group of teachers and am looking for suggestions. It's going to be played over the school loudspeakers each Friday, and is meant to be a kind of shot in the arm after the kids have gone for the day. Today is going to be 'Welcome Back Kotter.' I'd love more ideas, though. Someone suggested 'Respect' by Aretha Franklin, for example. Any other good ideas?

School's Out by Alice Cooper?
Hot for Teacher by Van Halen?
Don't Stand So Close to Me by The Police?
When I Kissed the Teacher by Abba?

Or maybe you had less edginess in mind.

Best answer: Paul Simon's "Kodachrome"

When I think back
On all the crap I learned in high school
It's a wonder
I can think at all
And though my lack of edu---cation
Hasn't hurt me none
I can read the writing on the wall

I picture hair ties being tossed off and teachers dancing in the hallways to Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero"!

You poor, unfortunate soul.

If you want pointless exuberance, irrespective of song quality, consider:

I'm Free Now - Morphine (or maybe "Buena" would be better)

Michael Gray: Weekend

The video's a bit racy, and this certainly hasn't yet entered the classic lexicon of weekend-anticipation songs, but I think it might be great for a hot afternoon.

For sheer inapporpriateness, what about "Hits From The Bong" by Cypress Hill? (This is the song that starts out with "Do you want to get hiiiiiiigh? Does EVERYBODY want to get high???")

"Bang The Drum All Day" by Todd Rundgren. It's got the anti-work element ("I don't wanna work/I just wanna bang on the drum all day"), and it's wildly hyper and lively.

Ooh, another one -- I have a mix tape of "generically silly songs" at home, and a couple of them may also be fun:

"They're coming to take me away, ha-ha" by Napoleon XIV.

The band Bim Skala Bim did a ska remake of "Brain Damage" (aka "Dark Side Of the Moon")

"Happy Happy Joy Joy" from Ren and Stimpy.

"Istanbul (Not Constantinople)" by They Might Be Giants.

None of them are strictly "the kids are gone, whee", but they're still lively and silly.

It's cheesy, sure, but "Saturday Night" by the Bay City Rollers and it's S-A-TUR-DAY chant still gets the adrenaline pumping.

If you can find a clean version (I'm assuming you'll need to), Teenagers by My Chemical Romance seems pretty appropriate if this is a middle or high school group.

My friends and I joke that they should play "Move, Bitch" by Ludacris at the end of the day when the kids are dawdling, but I'm pretty sure that wouldn't fly ;-)
