Girl-Do-Over: help correct one of guy film history's most tragic episodes

The year is 2001. You are casting the new Spider Man movie. In this parallel universe, thankfully, Kirsten Dunst trips on her cheerleader outfit from Bring It On, falls off a cliff and dies on impact. WHO do you cast from the crop of bankable young actresses circa 2001 to make the perfect Mary Jane Watson?
So basically I was watching Spiderman the other day and it brought me to the main flaw in all the superhero movies - even the great ones. And that is, pretty universally, the girl isn't right. Comic girls have presence, have impact, and they're all smoking hot. And what's crazy is even though now hollywood can get the HERO right, the girl always comes off wrong
Take Batman. Maggie Gyllenhal is a tremendous actress but not too attractive in IMAX.
Or Iron Man, Gwyneth Paltrow is fine, but nothing amazing. As either an actress (given her part) or as an object of desire for the hero (and us).
And nowhere is the contrast more epicly wrong than Spider Man. The universally hottest girlfriend in comics history with a body like sex on wheels, is played by a pasty skinned, snaggletoothed actress with less curves than a road from Dallas to Fort Worth.
And of course her acting skills are subpar at best.
So in my alternate universe, correct the mistake: who COULD have been cast in 2001 who would have made SpiderMan the perfect hero film of all time?
And that means no Megan Fox suggestions. I think she'd have been 15 at the time.
The key here is you need an actress as good as Toby in skills, and hot enough in the Mary Jane Watson way to satisfy a million fan boys. Let the speculations...(dramatic pause)...BEGIN!
