I want to learn how to create 8bit -16bit style animations, kind of like "Code Monkeys" on tv network G4. Where do I start?
After searching for a bit someone on yahoo answers said that they use Photoshop, After Effects, and Final Cut Pro (don't have the last one because it's mac only) to do the bulk of the animating. I can get a hold of other programs too but i just don't know what to do first. If anybody could point me towards some good tutorials/programs for animating this type of work, it would be much appreciated.

I believe the word you want for the googles is "pixel art". Here's a blog with links to many (some are the same mentioned by Scoo)
