These Flies are driving me Insane!

We've had a series of kids parties here this summer, and now with all of the tiny flecks of pizza, cake and general kid residue, our yard has been overrun with FLIES!
The only thing I can think of is to spray the yard with one of those on-hose fertilizer sprayers with some soapy water.
That's an effective method but I would really rather not infect our storm drain with a bunch of bubbly stuff that will end up in the bay.
Any suggestions? Should I just go for it?
FWIW, we've picked up and cleaned up everything humanly possible! It looks like the flies are here for the duration. Help!

Best answer: Where are the flies actually hanging out? Flies rest about 85% of the time. Hit that area with an insecticide or insect growth regulator (IGR - disrupts the insect life cycle so they can't reproduce) and you'll knock a bunch of them down.
Flies are known to travel more than a mile, so the food source might not be in your yard at all. beagle's got a good idea about looking for something nearby, though.
Soapy water will probably not do much, and might actually cause more problems if you create nice, damp breeding sites.

Could you colonize the areas with flies with something which eats fly larvae?
