How do I fix misrendered Firefox fonts?

I'm running Firefox 3, and it has started mis-rendering fonts on some websites, like this.

As you can see, IE chooses the right fonts.

Two sites that demonstrate this problem:
http://www.squareamerica.com/
http://www.cynical-c.com/

Firefox character encoding is set to western (ISO-8859-1), and auto-detect is turned off.

Any idea what would cause this?

Thanks!

For Firefox, it's usually best to test out first if it's something in your current profile that's messing things up - profiles sometimes get corrupted and causes FF to start behaving weirdly.

If you start a whole new profile from scratch, is it also mis-rendering the font?

Response by poster: gemmy - I tried making a new profile. Same results.

Make sure your FF options are set to the defaults.

Also, this FF support forum post looks like it might have addressed a similar issue.

For what it's worth, I went to the sites you indicated in the question, and they render perfectly fine for me in FF 3.0.1 on Win XP.

You might try about:config, filter by font and look for any bolded entries. If so, right click and you'll get a reset option.
