Online marketing classes?

Looking for recommendations for courses in web marketing (in person or online).

I graduated from university about a year ago (BA Communications) and through some internships and temporary work, I've found I'd like to get into online marketing. My previous experience has helped me get some interviews, but I think it's not enough to land a good gig, especially in the current economy.

If I went to a full-time student status, I could get better training/contacts in the field, not to mention health coverage under my parent's plan.

I'm based in the Upper Midwest USA now, but wouldn't mind looking into certificate programs elsewhere if they are really stellar.

Any advice/recommendations greatly appreciated from the knowledgable Metafilter crowd.

You should give your local junior college a try! They do have a lot of online classes or night clases in you prefer.

Good for you for caring about continuing your education! Good luck.

It's grat to see someone who wants to improve their knowledge of marketing. But you already have enough education. You might want to do an internship, volunteer, temp, join & volunteer with IABC, or take some night courses at a technical school. But you don't need more education. You need hands-on experience, even if some of that is unpaid.

You are better to take a job that is less than perfect and to get more work experience and training than to go back to school full-time. Try to find opportunities to get some great experience and spin it, as opposed to paying out more for education right now. You'd be better to work as an admin assistant with health benefits and to moonlight or volunteer on the side, because it will give you longer term work experience, a chance to prove yourself to bosses, etc.

Being over educated in this economy is not the way to go. Your education will be more meaningful if you go back for it later. Right now, you don't need f/t experience.

Disclaimer: I'm a marketing consultant who has spent most of her career in marketing and in career planning. I have a BA with a minor in Communications.

If you take the time to study these and read a book like this, you will have no trouble getting hired.
