In Salmon Rushdie's Midnight's Children, is the character of Nadir Khan a muslim or a hindu?

I haven't read the book, but Khan is a Muslim name as far as I'm aware.

That's what I was going to suggest, too. I haven't read the book either, but there's some information over at the Wikipedia entry for the name Khan that you might find helpful.

He's a muslim. Not only is he the personal secretary of Mian Abdullah who is a Muslim political figure but also when he divorces Mumtaz he leaves a note saying "Taalaq! Taalaq! Taalaq!"

And, yes, I'm currently reading the book.
