Hard Drive Problem

Hard drive problem: I tried to move a functioning fat32 slave drive into a new machine. It showed up as RAW, so I put it back in the old machine. Now shows as RAW there too. Did I really lose all my data? ..

Both machines have XP Pro. Drive is a 80gb Maxtor D740X-6L. I tried SLAVE and CABLE SELECT jumper settings…nothing. Am I missing/forgetting something? Is there a way to save the data?

I had the same problem a while back, and it turned out the partition table got corrupted somehow. Here's a link to the program I used to restore it, called TestDisk.

If the program can see your partition, there's a good chance you can write the detected information to the drive and get it working.

Thank you, addyct! TestDisk did the trick!
You're my hero. :)
