Need extremely light weight luggage

I had back surgery in June (bulging disc) and hope to travel to San Fran in late August. What is the most light weight luggage available? I only need one piece, maybe a 20 inch piece and easy to roll. And I will be checking the bag.

Hey's has a 5.1lb 20" bag they tout as the lightest. I haven't tried it out, but they seem reputable. Eagle Creek has a 7lb 20" bag in their "hovercraft" line. I tried it out in the store and it was pretty good.

Another option might be to have your bags shipped to and from your hotel. Some of the cruise lines use Luggage Express to offer this service. It's not cheap. $164 each way SF-Miami using 3 day shipping for a 40lb bag. But it's darned convenient.

BTW, I personally hate carrying luggage and my #1 favorite thing these days is clothes I can handwash and will dry overnight. And hotel dry cleaning, if I have time.

Have a look a the lightweight category at ebags. I can't vouch for a particular piece, but the site is terrific in general. I've bought a ton of stuff from them and never been disappointed.
