Help me rearrange my apartment. And I've given you a kinda fun webtoy with which to help me do it.

A few years ago, I had to throw away my mattress and boxspring. Since then, I have been sleeping on AeroBeds. They've actually been quite comfortable, but I'd like to "graduate" to a new bed and to one larger than a single-person twin mattress. Problem is that I really don't know how to fit it into my small studio (about 350 ft2).

I suspect that people on Ask Metafilter might have a better design sense than I do, and could recommend different ways of rearranging the furniture to make a full-sized bed fit more easily, and/or just make the apartment a little better.

So feel free to rearrange things in whatever fashion you like, and not just to accommodate a larger bed — I'd appreciate any other ideas on rearranging the space, too.

I didn't know how to really pose the question to the Ask Mefi hivemind until last week. But thanks to last week's answers, I can point you towards an interactive and rearrangable floor plan here. Everything here is almost exactly scale, so solutions posted should work "in real life."

A few how-tos:

* You can rotate furniture by clicking on it with your left mouse and then spinning the "rotation" dial.
* When you're all done with your design, on the right, you can name it and click the "save" button.
* You can also delete furniture by left-clicking and hitting the trash button, if you want to get rid of furniture.
* You can resize furniture too, but keep in mind my budget for buying new furniture is currently non-existent (except for the eventual bed purchase), so new stuff'd be somewhat tough, although doable for smaller stuff.

And the system was short a few things, so:

* the blue box in the kitchen is kitchen shelving;
* the "bar stool" is a kitty window stand;
* the smaller dark gray box on the left are storage shelves;
* the larger dark gray box on the right are clothing bins (my version of a dresser at the moment);
* the small black boxes are DVD shelves, my CPAP machine, and my cable modem;
* the wood thing by the bathroom is a bathroom stand;
* the black box next to it is a suitcase;
* the "cage" is a litterbox;
* the gray box by the window is a filing cabinet; and
* the black circle next to it is a floor fan.

And:

* The bed's an approximation of a full-sized bed based on mattress size, but not including headboard. (If you click on it, it says "king", but I adjusted the measurements.)
* The bookshelves right by the stove and sink are built-in and immovable, as are the radiators (which is why they're all locked).
* The scant power outlets (the little white double-dot thingies) may limit placement of the bed (as my apnea machine need be by it) and computer-entertainment equipment, although I imagine extension cords can help (as they do with my computer now).

Yes, my toilet is THAT HUGE. (No, it's just there's no room in there to put anything at all — radiator, toilet, sink and shower take up all the space.) The smaller box in the lower righthand corner is a fairly packed closet.

This post was deleted for the following reason: You really could just followup in your question from last week where this first came up; as it is, you're kind of posting an askme sequel that's essentially asking people to go off to another site instead of answering questions, which is moving into kind of weird territory here. -- cortex -- cortex

How do you get into your bathroom?

I hate that you open the door, and walk right into the angled bed. If I were you, I'd stick the bed into the alcove on the right - it'll poke out a bit into the main living space, but it'd be a huge improvement to separate bedroom and living room. It looks like you could use the outlets marked "tv" for your machine - and if an extention cord was required to make it reach, you'd be running it past the closet and into the bed nook, so it wouldn't be cluttering up the living area. Anyway, you've got a lot of space to play with!
