Buying a beautiful/unusual sarong to send by international mail? A sarong would be the perfect 'cheer up' postal present for my sister (in the UK) from me (in NY) since she's moving to the (westernized) Middle East in a couple of months.

My sister is a boho chic woman who loves strong colors. I don't have a strong design sense. Since sarongs are easy to send by mail & I'd like to at least cheer up my sister with a reminder of the tons of sun coming her way - while she's in the midst of the horrors of household packing in England - does anyone have a clue about buying gorgeous sarongs online?

I have purchased a number of sarongs from Turtle Island Imports. They have both the typical stuff and a nice selection of more interesting designs.

I recently ordered some lightweight floral sarongs from Curious Designs and I'm quite pleased with them - so pretty, versatile, and never the wrong size. The store is in Santa Fe and I am in MA, but they arrived very quickly just the same; I think I ordered on Friday and they were here on Tuesday. The selection is quite varied, and the prices are good. They have an 800 number, I just called it and confirmed that they will ship to the UK.

And, what a sweet sister you are!

Try Etsy, particularly the Asian sellers - there's quite a few that make their own sarongs.

These designs are like dreams. What brilliant links for gifts.

I can't possibly get the choice below five, so it's three sarongs from Curious Designs, two more from Turtles. (I'm slightly stunned by the prices, in a good way obviously!) I also wasn't aware of the amazing Etsy - it's got the earrings I "need" for - at $12.50!!

Thank you very, very much!

(Also, Lou. Your comment about being a nice sister...got to me. I'll say this quickly - we lost our amazing elder sister, horrifically early, seven years ago. An awful time. The only, only, only, only positive thing is that the two sisters left take much better care of each other, though we live far apart. It's been strangely mutual and steady - we don't mention it to each other at all, really. But I'm starting to feel very grateful.)
