The Empire Strikes... ME?

Years ago I swear that I saw a tv special for The Empire Strikes Back where it made it seem that the empire had taken over my tv signal. Please tell and prove to me that I'm not hallucinating this.

This page mentions pretty much every tv thing that was made about the original trilogy. Perhaps one of these is what you have in mind?

Well, the Holiday Special has that kind of vibe. The Wookies are watching TV, the Empire shows up on it. Chewie's son is watching a holo-TV and different stuff is showing up on it, like the adventures of Boba Fett.
