Question: Looking for lowbrow books

Looking for sites or reviewers who review books other than literary fiction

I've gotten into Bookgasm and I love it. I've realized that I'm not that into literary fiction. I prefer books that are plot-based, rather than character-based. So, that gets me into genre fiction or non-fiction stuff. I'm not into sci-fi at all.

Problem is, most sources like Bookslut and NY Times Book Review devote most of their reviews to literary fiction.

So, are there any other sites or magazines out there like Bookgasm? Meaning well written reviews of books that are not literary fiction?

Mystery Scene magazine reviews over a thousand mysteries each year. They have general reviews, small press reviews, reference reviews, audiobook reviews, YA reviews, and reviews by columnists.

All the general reviews are online.

If you have any interest in romance, and even if you don't, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books is an amusing read.

Back in my library days, I read Booklist. Unfortunately, it's a subscription only site. :(

Publisher's Weekly is also a great reference for anything and everything that comes out of the book world. Occasionally I'll disagree with the Publisher's Weekly review, but only rarely. The reviews are very short, but they cover everything. Even comics.

For longer reviews I like The New Yorker. They do tend to stick to the non-fiction/literary end of things but the reviews are interesting nonetheless.
