How to find the value of land in Ireland?

How has the value of agricultural land in Ireland changed since 2003?

Does anyone know the current going rate for an acre of farmland in Ireland? Also, could someone please tell me how it's varied over time since 2003?

Are there any land valuation services that someone could recommend, and if so what information do they need to provide a valuation?

It depends on a lot of factors: location, water, access, standing agricultural buildings, total acreage, zoning and any planning permission are just a couple I can think of. At the low end of the market, you're probably looking at €10K per acre and at the high end €200K. Land in BallyMcNowhere is going to be worth less than land around Dublin.

I'm sort of assuming that like the rest of Irish property, it rose in value until last year, when the market began to fall off. The Farmer's Journal would be your best resource for research if nobody here has a more concrete answer, but any auctioneer can give you a valuation at no cost.

And I am so not a farmer. Everything I know about agricultural land, I learned from RTE and auctioneer websites when looking for residential properties.

Need more details: arable land, improved grazing or rough grazing? Leveled and cleared land on a well established farm with facilities and clear title or land on the side of a mountain that has a fence around it but, ah, nobody-bothers-with-paperwork-around-here land? Legal for a single building site or more housing?

Ireland is a pretty diverse place agriculturally so if you have a specific piece in mind the recommendation of an auctioneer is a good one. Otherwise your best bet is to narrow it down in terms of what you're interested in and then ask a real estate pro in Ireland.

The Irish Central Statistics Office is a good place to start for this kind of thing.
The first result in this link provides a tool for querying average cost per acre/hectare of land for each quarter up to Q1 2005.

I'm sure if you root around some more on that site you should find plenty more. Hope that helps.
