I read something online a few weeks ago about a new open source tool for audio recording amd processing. I have searched my RSS feeds and via Google, and haven't found it. It wasn't Audacity. I do believe its title was a single word, perhaps beginning with 'R'. I thought it was developed by the same guy(s) that did Winamp or Skype or something (but Googling with this fact hasn't helped me)

It looks nice and all, but why would someone pay $225 for Reaper rather than use the full-featured and free Audacity?

Audicity is hardly feature and interface worthy of being compared to true DAWs.

Also, REAPER distribution allows it to be acquired and used for free, with a somewhat optional license. So the $225 ($50 for non-commercial use) price tag does not necessarily apply.

The software that you've marked as being the correct answer to your question about “a new open source tool”, Reaper, is not open source software. It is proprietary and they do not make their source code available.

I understand that you may have remembered incorrectly, but just wanted to point this out to readers of this page.
