Good quality XML editor for OS X?

Is there a good-quality open source/freeware XML editor for OS X that will understand DTD files (and validate too)? And is geared more toward writing documentation than code?

By "geared more toward writing documentation" does this mean that you'd ideally like a word processor?

Something that will understand arbitrary DTDs/Schemas and is like word processor will require a mapping in order to understand what's a block element, what's inline, what's an image, etc. Conglomerate can do this, but it's always been a bit crashy for me (on Linux).

If it's just DocBook that you want them there are Abiword plugins for that.

Alternatively you could look into converters... eg, write your document in ODF and convert that to your format of choice.

Apart from the "free" part, Oxygen XML sounds like what you want.

There is a 30 day free trial - maybe you can do what you want within that time?

Response by poster: If anybody is interested I found my own solution. I had a license for TextMate from the MacHeist bundle and I added-in the free XMLmate plugin, which can check the code.

Oxygen XML would be ideal but is a pro-level tool with a relatively high price tag.
