FailingAmericaFilter: Something out of a zombie flick?

In the event that America falls to pieces in the next 50 years what will it look like? How will one survive?

Hypothetically, of course. This is all just off the top of my head so my apologies if not all of it is coherent.

I'm talking about food, shelter, protection, the decision to survive alone or as a group, how to establish stability and keep it that way (if only for a small group), etc., etc.. Let your imagination run wild!

Here are some good starting places:
A) food
B) shelter

Also, assuming that societal collapse means that the infrastructure many technologies work/exist/operate upon stop working, what are the major setbacks going to be because of this? As a for instance: without an oil supply one might envision all the highways full up of vehicles completely drained of their power supply, rows and rows of steel machines that might be livable but certainly unmovable.
