Recommend a VW mechanic in PDX

Can you recommend a Volkswagen mechanic in Portland or Eugene, Oregon?
My Check-Engine light is on and I need to get the oil changed in my 2000 VW Eurovan. I'd prefer to find an honest, independent VW mechanic rather than patronize a dealership. Thanks!

My friend who owned a classic beetle used to swear by Heckmann & Thiemann.

Best answer: Jetta owner here. I've never used them myself, because my Jetta's new enough to be relatively problem-free, but I've had the amusingly-named Fix Um Haus on Lombard recommended to me on various occasions.

Been a long time since I had my '73 bus serviced there, but they did a great job.

I will strongly second Heckmann & Thiemann. They did great work on my '68 Ghia and '73 Westie. You'll pay for their service, but you'll get your money worth there. Easy access near 26th and Powell.

The TDIClub trusted mechanics list has a bunch of recommended shops. While the list is for diesel VWs, any mechanic who can handle the more specialized diesel engine can certainly handle the gas engine (assuming that yours is gas).

My Beetle owning friends have good things to save about Independent Auto Werks in Corvallis if that's closer than taking it to Portland.

We take our piece of crap 01 Jetta to Morgan Automotive in SE Portland. They provide good service.

Double J Motorwerks in Portland has done great work for me on all the cars I've taken there (an older Jetta and my current '99 Cabrio).

Response by poster: I went with Fix 'em Haus in St. Johns. They were timely, inexpensive, friendly and came off as honest and trustworthy. Thanks for the answers!

I took my Subaru in Salem to a guy named Marv at the Japanese Connection who was very, very good and honest. Since you said Portland and Eugene I thought I'd throw that out there. I imagine an oil change in a German vehicle might be within his scope of skills.
