Nero spitting out blank CDRs

Has anyone ever had NERO spit out blank CDRs? [More inside]

I've had NERO a pretty long time and have never had trouble with it. But about a month ago I got a new drive and reinstalled NERO, and then a week ago I got a new CD/DVD burner.

Since then, I've been trying to burn some movies and music, but it keeps spitting out blank CDRs (or at least CDRs my comp and DVD player won't recognize). Is there some setting in NERO that I could have forgotten? I also notice that no matter what format I try to burn, it makes me save an image file (.nrg) which never used to happen. Thanks for any suggestions...

If you go to the Recorder menu and select Choose Recorder, you should see at least two options there: one for your actual drive (Sony, or Matshita or whatever), and another one called "Image Recorder - Virtual Device." It sounds like you've got the virtual Image Recorder selected instead of the actual physical drive, which is why it's just making the .nrg files.

Hopefully your physical drive is listed there and you can just select it and be good to go. If the Image Recorder is the only one listed, then Nero's not recognizing your new drive for some reason.

Nero releases new versions very often. If you reinstalled an old version rather than using the latest one from their website, and your burner is relatively new, upgrading will almost certainly fix it.

This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with Doom 3, would it?

Uh-huh, 'swhat I thought.

In any case: suggest you use a seperate program to make the actual .iso files (nero is fine here), and alcohol 120% by alcoholsoft to do your burning.

In other news, keyser soze had no problem burning his copy of Doom 3.

note: Get the latest nero version here.

Make sure that "finalize disc" is checked before you click "burn". When you reinstall Nero, it's sometimes off by default for some reason.

In an unrelated problem, the "burn" button has been completely grayed out on my copy of Nero for some time. Any thoughts?
