Entourage outgoing mail

Sometimes my Entourage allows outgoing messages on a new network, sometimes it doesn't (in which case I use the web based client, which is a pain). Just wondering if there's an easy way to fix this, or do you have to tweak something with every new network you use?

Many networks block outbound access to SMTP servers on port 25 in an effort to prevent spam distribution. You are probably visiting networks with this block enabled.

The easiest way to get around this is to see if your e-mail provider offers alternate SMTP ports, SSL, and authentication. Check with them for these settings and modify your Entourage account settings accordingly. The more secure methods will likely be allowed since these filters usually block based on port number, which you'll change. It also won't present a problem on networks where it was already working.

You need to set entourage to send mail via port 587 instead of 25.

Please investigate using the TLS/SSL connection to your mail server. Not only is it far more infrequently blocked but it will stop anyone with two malicious brain cells from stealing your login credentials.

D'oh forgot the SMTP-over-SSL link for sending. IMAP is for receiving. You may have to contact your email provider for some details, especially with SMTP.
