Help a chinese student: I am teaching elementary statistic to a young chinese , but I have an hard time explaining him words such as : average, mean, median, mode, quotient, ratio, standard deviation etc. I am looking for a list of math/science words english<>chine, a mini vocabulary (doc/pdf/whatever) as I don't trust online translation programs too much.

I just learned this in my Chinese class! plus is pronounced 'jia', minus is pronounced ' jian', and times is pronounced 'cheng'.

jia is pronounced jee-ah
jian - jee -ahn
cheng - cheung, not chang

In addition, go here and click on the PDF document on top, print it out and have him tell you how to say them.

What I used to do when I used to teach foreign language is to have the students bring english to chinese dictionaries and I'd look it up and show it to them and they'll get it.
