throwaway phone number?

Is there a service that will give me a "throwaway" phone number in another US area code (of my choice) that will ring on a second (US) phone number I specify? Looking for a solution that's dead simple, and free or very cheap.

Many companies offer this. All you need is a system that offers forwarding.

Check out Ringcentral.com

You could even go to walmart or 7-11 and get a prepaid cell phone ( like tracfone) most of those services will let you choose any area code for your phone number

I used to have a roommate with whom I shared a phone line, but we each had our own numbers, which had different rings so you could tell who the call was for. Service was through Verizon's Distinctive Ring and only cost a few dollars a month.
