RecipeFilter: oranges. Oranges were buy 2 (3 lb bags) get one free today. Just juiced, zested, and peeled first two bags, yielded a quart of juice (which we'll drink), plus half a cup of zest and a cup of de-pithed peel before I ran out, so to speak, of my own juice. Now what?

This wonderful thread is full of non-functional links. Marmalade? Preserved peel? I still have four bags of oranges left.

Orange curd! Here's a recipe. Or just take your favorite lemon curd recipe and substitute oranges. Made lemon curd yesterday after a long while and wondered what took me so long. So good on vanilla ice cream. Just remember to cook it over a pot of water (no direct heat) and be patient with stirring. It'll be worth it!

Orange marmalade is great on pancakes.

Homemade popsicles! These watermelon-orange popsicles sound good, and I bet this tangerine popsicle recipe would adapt nicely. And you could probably also vary either one to your preferences - a little bit of chopped spearmint leaves might be nice in the watermelon ones, and I think a pineapple-orange popsicle would be delicious.

Put zest (not the pith, though - it will just turn bitter) into vodka. Or brandy. Maybe gin? But definitely vodka and/or brandy.

This link for a candied orange peel recipe still works. Do make candied orange peel, it's insanely good.

Also homemade jello, from fruit juice and gelatin. And if you have kids, they might get a kick out of it being presented in orange wedges.

Oooh, and after you make the candied orange peel, make orangettes with them. Chocolate and orange is one of my favorite combinations ever.

You could juice some of them, put the juice into ice cube trays, and then put the frozen cubes into plastic bags to freeze. The juice could be used in marinades and salad dressing.

That should read, "put the frozen cubes into plastic bags to store in the freezer."

Posted the question, worked in the garden for a coupla hours. Made myself a dreamsicle smoothie (yogurt, frozen peach wedges--instead of chipped ice--, sour cream, honey and, yes orange juice) and sat down to see what the hive mind came up with. Now I know what I'll be doing on Monday! Yum!

A good way to take care of a bunch of any citrus zest is to make liqueur. Probably easiest to find the technique by searching on limoncello (I don't have a recipe handy). If I recall correctly you basically put a big pile of zest in a mason jar, add vodka or everclear, let sit for a couple of weeks or more, then sweeten with sugar / simple syrup. Very easy.

peacheater thanks for the chocolate and zucchini link-- it's one of the sites I went to before my eyes crossed looking for orange recipes. Don't know why it didn't come up. This is the first place I went to because, duh. Strangely, no orangette recipe there.
