What is this game?

Help me remember this game and find something similar.

This was an internet baesd game that existed over 5 years ago (or more). I'm sorry I don't remember the developer, but it was pre-MMO games, but was a multiplayer game itself. It was a game that utilized various sites to convey information, instant messenging from people who acted as operatives, all with the intent to move forward a story. The line between reality and game were blurred as the information they provided was factual, but the story was made up... ala Rollins or Brown.
I remember really enjoying the sense of tension in the game and the clever storylines. I'm sorry I don't remember more, but I will try to add details if I think of it.
Thanks!

Best answer: The game was called "Majestic". Previously.

Best answer: You aren't thinking of Majestic are you?

Never played it, but heard it was interesting. Might want to look up other "alternate reality" games.

If you're looking for more alternate reality games like that, check out ARGN for news tips and Unfiction for discussion. The blur in today's games is a little more than it was in Majestic, since you generally don't have to fire up a specific application to proceed in the game; mostly it's played out in places you already go to (like websites).

Response by poster: Whew! Thanks. I had no idea how to search for it given my sketchy memory. I'd love to hear other ideas for similar games.
AskMeFi is amazing... 13 minutes. Nice.

As probably the only person ever who ran a Majestic fan blog, you might also consider the The Beast (and the Cloudmakers group) as something to think about. It's old and over, but had the 'net buzzing at the time.
